He went back and edited his whiney little post out.. the short and sweet of it was that someone was spamming some twink junk in the bazaar. Suppin wanted to buy it, but instead of cash, the guy asked for this really obscure item. The scam was, his friend was selling the item for several k each, and no one knew what they were for, but they ended up being some crappy foraged or purchased item. Suppin bought it, and they /q'd or something. So he got taken for a couple k. He whined and bitched and spammed /ooc for 3 hours in the bazaar, then took it to every message board he could get access to.

Hence: Pulling a Suppin.

3 hours. Try like 3 freaking weeks.

Two guys just pulled that scam on a friend of mine a week or two ago, not sure what their names were though.

if he has evidence of someone hacking into paypal accounts isn't that something to be reported to Paypal and/or FBI? Police maybe?

good for him that he went thru all the trouble to dig anything he could about possible suspect but listing all people living in some apartment complex? possible family members? why not list everybody named Jones in US? world?

please, he went just a bit overboard with personal info of a lot of innocent people

Theres a problem with that though. the fbi does do searches on this kind of stuff, but ever since 9/11 they have been focusing thier efforts on other things, so this would be considered minor to them and would take forever to resolve.

Why is this so hard for people to learn? The game is four years old and rubes have been getting their asses handed to them in trades for that entire time.

Its hard to learn because not everyone has been playing for 4 years, and even if they have they may not have been doing any trading till recently, and if you dont move in the trading circles you dont necessarily learn all the rules and cautions. Sure, the chances are that there is (for example) say a 75% chance per year that you'll learn the specific rule/hear the cautionary tale/whatever, but the sad fact is that that still means 1 in 4 dont know it after a year, 1 in 16 still dont after 2 years, 1 in 64 after 3 etc. Hell, the guy who introduced me to EQ (Sucked me into this vortex of doom... ) didnt find out about clipping planes till he'd been playing for nearly 2 years when I mentioned something about it casually to him while running back to Freeport through south ro. Two years of not knowing something basic like that. It happens. These people are not usually dumbasses, theyre more usually just untrained/uneducated in the subject at hand for one or more silly or mundane reasons. Before you condemn someone for falling for a scam remember that there is NOTHING that you know that someone didnt teach you, or that you didnt learn by random chance by being in the right place at the right time, reading the right book, hearing/overhearing the right program/conversation etc. Nothing. And also remember that there is no training course you have to take before you can do trades in EQ, there are few people who spend their time seeking out and teaching new players about the dangers etc. So people do come into trading untrained and unprepared sometimes, and more often than you might think. Mocking them merely shows your own lack of awareness and some of the nastier parts of your own personality. And remember, they through random mischance failed to learn something that would have prevented the scam; what have YOU failed to learn through random mischance, and what might it cost you? Dont mock, one day it may be you.

Suppins spamming might have been annoying to a degree, but he was at least trying to fight the problem and help others through education. I've set up stings twice that got scammers banned. What the hell have YOU done to make yourself useful? Nothing? Figures.

THANK you Varia for that post, that really makes me feel better and.. makes me feel that i'm not the only good person left on eq, i didn't mean to "SPAM" people, all i tried to do was warn people... people mock me, make fun of me because I .. never heard of this scam.... and what you were saying... "you never knew something before someone told you about it "...... that's what i was doing, and if there was anything wrong with it?... then you don't know what you're talking about...AND... i didn't spam anything for WEEKS.... no, i let people know what happened, i had a hotbutton for TELLS.... they sent ME tells and i'd "REPLY" to them....telling them what happened, if many people in the zone wanted to know, i did an ooc, let them know, told them to beware.. and i wasn't alone, there was times that people shouted GOOD JOB BUD!, but.. there was people who said stfu ... and what the people in the zone/channel said?.. ignore him then.... All i tried to do was help atleast ONE person, that's why i came here..... but it just seems that people are so mean, and don't care about what i've tried to say or do.... /shrug i don't know, im not a bad person, im not a spammer as people think i am, im really truly just trying to help my friends, and innocent people.. never have i once tried to make myself look foolish, by trying to stop a scammer,... just because i catch scammers?.. im labeled as something?.. i catch scammers because i'm involved in OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of trades, i know when things are great deals, and well as everyone knows.. I would have to agree with Lynxe here. The point isn't that Suppin intended the word 'faggot' to mean homosexual, the pojnt is that OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of people out there find the use of those hate words tasteless. Lynxe, and I, are some of these people.

Also, it is much easier to read an arguement if it is correctly punctuated, etc. Just a little friendly advice. Its difficult and annoying to read things in way you present them, Suppin.
