if you guys think those are ugly, then you're gonna hate the future. architecture is just getting acquainted with post-modernism.

I don't think I'm gonna hate the future. I liked architecture in STar Wars, Minority report, Fifth element and so on. Futuristic stuff.
Maybe what they showed so far is just a model or a basic drawing. Looks frigging bland to me. Needs some life in it, or color or something.
And I don't dig the whole "spire" thing. WTF we gotta have the biggest cock in the whole world?

i doubt the actual final product will be as "Stylalized" as the model.
i think it was the best choice of the finalists. The architect seems like an interesting guy.

This phallic symbol will promote violence and EXPRIOT WIMMENZ. I should not be forced to view such an obvious display of male powar that was designed for the sole purpose of making me feel vulnerable and inferior because I have a vagina. I intend to tear these buildings down with a cardboard tube at the first opportunity. And when I get raped as a result of this, which we ALL know is going to happen, I'm suing the City of New York, those bastards. F U Libeskind.
Yes.

The design they chose looks craptacular. It's way too cluttered, it lacks any central focus, and it's just plain ugly. Yuck.
The spire bit is also pretty lame, and essentially a waste of what could be usable office space.

I like the idea of the Vertical World Gardens personally. You also have to remember that the winning design will probably change quite a bit as time goes by. Building is probably still a few years down the road.

Not to mention, building will proceed by actual need. The sad reality is, there's not a whole lot of difficulty obtaining office space in the financial district even with the loss of 10 mil sq.ft.. Most of the displaced moved to offices in mid-town or Jersey City.
It has to maintain a certain level of clutter while remaining distict. The Manhattan skyline is not an easy one to impact w/out such criteria.

Wildviene, the difference between this thread and your post is one is talking about the replacement of the world trade center and the thing you posted is regarding a memorial structure.
One would be huge and contain thousands of people doing jobs with computer equipment and desks etc...the other is a memorial so it would have crosses ont he wall with names on them...and thus much smaller.
Personally I don't care what the new structure looks like. I avoid going to New York whenever possible, and when I do go I go from my client to my hotel ASAP and lock myself in...it's not that I'm frightened of the city, it's that I hate it, I hate the way it looks, smells, and the way the people act in general. I used to live near there and have to go to NYC almost weekly for business.
I mean whats the big deal about it's looks? It's just a tall rectangle of glass...this one happens to have a slanted top, wow...that's so weird, wait no, that's what the top archetects do when they want to get fancy on sky crapers, they slant the top.....because it's about all you can do.

Mister tough guy doesn't care what the financial capital of the world looks like. That's great. No sense in trying to explain the importance of what this project ultimately symbolizes and how well it functions to you.

Winnow continues to be a waste of space on these boards. Equally surprising!
