Kordell Stewart, Stephen Davis, and Dana Stubbifield. Terell Davis is going to come back to the Broncos? Strange things are afoot in the NFL.

Free agency starts after Midnight on Friday.

Sad to see Emitt smith is likely going to be released today.

Everyone knew those three were going to be released a day after their last games. Salary cap issues are pretty rough for the Raiders this year. They are something like 35 million dollars over the new limit...they really neeeded to win that super bowl last year, cause they will be a "new" team come fall '03.

I'm glad the steelers and redskins got rid of their "dead weight", overpayed vets. Both those teams needed to drop those guys a year or two ago.

The draft is also going to be kind of crappy this year. A lot of the top prospects are not going to stay at the teams that draft them. These teams just cant absorb the salary and bonus costs...will be interesting to see how it pans out...

My opinion of Emmit Smith will lower with each year he continues to play. He's clearly not what he used to be. He got the record. Time to go.

Shoo!

He has not slowed, the line in front of him has. Emmitt still has a few good years left in him. I just hate that it will not be as a cowboy.

Everyone thought Rice was passed his prime and he still has game. So does Emmitt.

Nope, Emmitt sucks. Blaming the line is passe. He was good but took a pounding just like any other running back.

Well lets see where he ends up.. Then next season you and I can have some type of bet that he will break 1k rushing.

What's it matter where he ends up? Going to blame the line again? : )

Barry Sanders had a poor offensive line most of his years and he was the shit anyway.

Here's hoping the Rams cut some salaries and hire an offensive line this year.

And that Warner hasn't gotten gun shy about that throwing hand.

Unless his agent was being a dick about doing a cap-friendly contract renegotiation, Spurrier was a fool to release Stephen Davis.

Emmit is at the end of his productive years. He can certainly squeeze a few more years as a role player (blitz pickup, pass blocking, outlet receiver), but his days as a franchise back are over.

Kordell Stewart had more than a fair shake in Pittsburgh, I'm glad Cowher didn't let personal affection for the guy affect a football decision.

The Bucs are going to miss Christy, but Chucky's built great O-lines before, I'm sure he'll be able to do it again.

I am not a Cowboys fan but I don't get this move. They have a new team without much experience, and they waive the one guy who has ALL the experience needed? Even when he says he will gladly go down in pay?

Experience and leadership are two very important things.

But a good day for Dallas.

I completely agree with Winnow, and I've seen every Emmit Smith televised game since we got him. (Yay Two Rows!)

He lst a step a few years back. He's about 3 steps down now. 1k rushing? Not even with Secret Service men escorting him downfield and shooting everyone who got near him. Look at his face...he's old, he's tired. He's just trying to give himself a little distance on the rushing record so he isn't beat in his lifetime IMO.

get your facts straight dumb ass.

He gained 975 yards this year and wasnt the full time back. Go suck Winnow's cock so you will shut the fuck up.

Wong again. Jerry knew in the begging of last year that they could not afford Emmitt much longer. Also they are in a rebuilding mode. So they stopped making plays for Emmitt, thus his performance dropped.

Emmitt still has plenty of game. He is still one of the top ten running backs in the leauge. He is no spring chicken but he will be a great asset to many teams. His sheer determination to prove the cowboys wrong for letting him go will be fun to watch.

Emmitt had 254 carries this year. Only two other players had more yards with less carries. If you are not used you can not perform. So if you want to call facts a conspiracy theroy, then you sir do not know football.

Emmitt's problem is that he is afraid of getting hurt. I've seen him take one too many dives this year to avoid getting hit. He used to run over people, now he attempts to run around them and if that fails, he takes a dive. He is no longer NFL material.

No matter how anyone feels about Emmit Smith the running back, there is simply no denying that Emmit Smith the man and team player is one of the classiest acts in sports, period.

I hope he comes back home to Tampa to finish out his career.

I couldn't agree with mez any more.

Watch the clips of his press conference. That is one classy motherfucker right there. I hope he DOES have a couple of more years left, he's fun to watch.

And you never hear of Emmitt and being busted for drugs for the 15th time.

I like him.

As for Kordell, SO LONG!

Here's a scary thought, Slash Jr going to be the man now in Pitt? I mean, did they not see Kordell Struggle? I hope their plan is not Randel El. On a related issue, 98 or 99 though Kordel made my fantasy team for me. HE dominated. Alas, his one year of dominance cost me three years of picking him up in hopes of a repeat performance. In the end Farve > ALL.

Winnow when you are able to accomplish anything close to what Emmit Smith has then you can talk. At least he never ran like a whiney little Bitch like Barry Sanders did "Trade me or ill Retire"

I don't see anyone debating Emmit's career up until now. Whether he's heading downhill from here is certainly debatable.

On a side note, stfu up with the "when you are able to do this or that" crap. If we were restricted from discussing things that we can't do, Millie's post count would be close to zero and we'd have 1500 posts about fish processing and igloos from kyoukan.

Friday! gtfo out and hit happy hour.

Barry Sanders had every right to bitch. That Barney-looking fuck Wayne Fontes had to be the dumbest motherfucker on the planet. He had the greatest running back I've ever seen, but never put a O-line in front of him. Barry was making sick gains while having to make his first cut at the line of scrimmage.

After 8 years of watching the clueless retards in the Detroit front office have bad draft after bad draft, I can't blame Barry for getting out while he still had all the cartilige in his knees.

I'll get some flames for this but I don't think Emmitt Smith was ever that great. He had an awesome O-Line and QB to get him most of his yards and he has barely hobbled along the past 3 years. I will admit he is very durable and arguably one of the most straight up nice guys in the league. I really hope he does get a position somewhere else and proves me wrong but I still give most of his accomplishments to his O-Line.

In my opnion Barry Sanders was 10x the runing back Emmitt was. He was an amazement to watch and I regret not being able to watch more of his games. I don't blame him a bit for showing he cared more about winning a few games than the money.

One Question WHO HAS THE RECORD!!! Oh and btw in the same ammount of seasons as Walter Payton. I Liked Barry butman I saw him lose 10yds just as much as he gained 10yds.

Typical Detroit playcalling:

1st and 10 They handoff to Barry Sanders
2nd and 14 looks like Detroit is in a passing situation

That pretty much proves the point about his offensive line. I would have LOVED to have seen Barry Sanders in Pittsburgh. He would have run for 2000 yards a year with the run blocking o-line they have always got there. And Barry would have the record if he had not left the game. He is well ahead of Emmit on yards per year played.

Cartalas, you're a football moron.
Barry Sanders gained over 1000 yards EVERY year he played.
He was < 1500 yards away from the rushing record with 800 fewer attempts than either Payton or Smith.
In '97, Barry gained over 2000 yards, something Emmitt never did.
Barry owns the season record for 100 yard games, and is second on the carreer 200 club.

Emmit did this all but one year
He was < 1500 yards away from the rushing record with 800 fewer attempts than either Payton or Smith.

Is he playing now? Does he have the record?

In '97, Barry gained over 2000 yards, something Emmitt never did.

Ill give ya that one
Barry owns the season record for 100 yard games, and is second on the carreer 200 club.

Wrong!!! Wrong!!! Walter still has this record and Emmit is in 2nd place tied with Barry

And did we forget Rushing TD's Emmitt #1 Barry couldnt Find the endzone.

Most Games, 100 or More Yards Rushing, Season
14 Barry Sanders, Detroit, 1997
12 Eric Dickerson, L.A. Rams, 1984
Barry Foster, Pittsburgh, 1992
Jamal Anderson, Atlanta, 1998
11 O.J. Simpson, Buffalo, 1973
Earl Campbell, Houston, 1979
Marcus Allen, L.A. Raiders, 1985
Eric Dickerson, L.A. Rams, 1986
Emmitt Smith, Dallas, 1995
Terrell Davis, Denver, 1998

Most Games, 200 or More Yards Rushing, Career
6 O.J. Simpson, Buffalo, 1969-1977; San Francisco, 1978-79
4 Jim Brown, Cleveland, 1957-1965
Earl Campbell, Houston, 1978-1984; New Orleans, 1984-85
Barry Sanders, Detroit, 1989-1998
3 Eric Dickerson, L.A. Rams, 1983-87; Indy, 1987-1991
Greg Bell, Buffalo, 1984-87; L.A. Rams, 1987-89; L.A. Raiders, 1990
Terrell Davis, Denver, 1995-2001
Corey Dillon, Cincinnati, 1997-2001
Marshall Faulk, Indianapolis, 1994-98; St. Louis, 1999-2001

The reason Barry didn't see much endzone was lack of big men to push other big men out of the way. See, that's the telling thing.

Barry owns all these records, played fewer seasons than Emmitt, and never had guys like Nate Newton, Moose Johnston, Larry Allen, Jay Novaceck, Troy Aikman, Michael Irving (all legit HoF candidates) around him.

It's Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson and then everyone else. Barry and Bo were like the Michael Jordans of football. You watched them in awe. Bo's career was cut short. Barry's was cut short because the suck ass team he played on wouldnt trade him or improve their team.

I respect Barry Sanders at least as much if not more than Emmit for ending his career knowing that all he had to do was play another year and he'd own the rushing title. Barry was just as much if not more of a class act as Emitt. He never celebrated and never took off his helmet like showboating Emitt did after touchdowns. He never got all wrapped up in merchandising and where his TD footballs went.

Barry > Emmit

Emmit gets brownie points for being durable. Barry gets all the other points.
