One of the very few decent "celebrities" around. He will be missed.

A very unique and special individual who touched so many lives. Such a wise and uncomplicated man who understood children. Truly a loss.

I'm glad he didn't suffer. I used to love that show.

That is a shame. He really was a good person--never got the press or got himself into any trouble, just did his show and tried to give good values to children the best he could.

I caught a biography of Fred Rogers a while ago, and if I recall correctly, he was a Lutheran or Methodist (or something) minister... he wasn't paid for doing the show -- infact he even paid for his own wardrobe, hence the whole sweater and shoe swapping thing at the beginning of each show... He wore those crazy white shoes for over 15 year (per pair) etc.
This is a rare example of a decent man whos contribution to society as a whole can not be measured...

definitely up there with Sesame Street as one of the greatest children's shows ever. and of course, like Sesame Street would never have existed without public television.

Yes that was a great show as a kid.
It was always Mr. Rogers, Hatchy Milatchy, Romper Room, and The Great Space Coaster as my line up as a kid.

"No ga-news is good ga-news, with Gary Ganu". I loved that show when I was a kid.
Sad thing about Mr. Rogers. I didn't even know he was ill.

I also loved watching The Hilarious House of Frightenstein but have never met anyone else who ever watched it or even heard of it ...

The house of Frightenstein was teh pwn. The Professor helped me pass Grade 12 physics!
It's sad to hear about Mr. Rogers. All the children TV greats are passing on. The Friendly Giant, Mr. Dressup, and now Mr. Rogers

Very sad.
In my day it was Captain Kangaroo (Mr. GreenJeans was teh pwn), Romper Room, and Mr Rogers.
The non-educational morning shows were Spanky and Our Gang and the local variety of Bozo the Clown.
