My new Laptop experiment

Post by Animalor »

I bought up one of these at Best Buy yesterday for 10% off the listed sales price (bought the floor demo as it was the last device they had)
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/ace ... 25576.aspx

Unfortunately their policy on the floor units it that they have "Geek Squad" *shudder* reinstall the factory image and clean up the device to return it to "Like new" status but I should get it today.

Should be an interesting experience in seeing if a hybrid device is a good laptop replacement.

The thing was incredibly snappy and the display was amazing when I played with it.

Sounds like a popular PC! There's another post about this on the forum as well.

I blame Py for listening to me and moving VV to Dreamhost!

That or maybe the forums need some database maintenance.

The errors was from the firewall on my end. Should've elaborated. I then hit back and then submit again.

Not a big deal since we can delete posts anyways if there are no replies.

I get errors all day long on VV with no firewall. It happens mostly during the day, usually around 9-10am pacific time.

The wildest thing happened!

Best Buy called me and said they couldn't restore the factory image in the Iconia so they offered instead to let me have a "similarly priced device". I was like "Err.. no. Things in that price range a all atom based and the Iconia is Core i5. He then offers to to talk to his manager.

They offered me a Surface Pro for the price I paid for the Acer tablet! So I just walked away with a 64 gb Surface Pro for just under 700$ + tax.

:vv_signlol: I win!

Win? Are you sure? You have a Surface Pro. Not sure I'd call that a win!

Your so-called "laptop experiment" doesn't involve a single laptop.
Make love, fuck war, peace will save us.

A unit that I can do just about anything I want with, highly portable and with decent battery life is a win in my books. Installed Steam and Civ 5 last night and played tablet mode. Amazing experience.

Oh and with a USB port that I can use for a 360 controller if I choose. I'll take a bit if a chunky tablet for versatility.

A few days in and the only downsides I'm feeling are the reduced battery life over other tablets (battery life is more in-line with Ultrabooks) and the constrained disk space and the latter is less of an issue with Skydrive and other cloud services.

Quite pleased with this thing.

I bought a 2$ app for my Surface Pro yesterday (Sale is over sadly). It's called "The Last Remnant" by Square Enix.

The nice thing is what they sold me was a Steam code.

Works great with the Xbox controller.
