Anyone see the discussion on ousting Hussien?

CNN ran a piece this morning on how the Arab League would like to see Hussein declared a war criminal by the U.N. and sent into exile.
Not sure how practical a thing this is, but it would certainly resolve a lot of issues short of a full-scale war.
Apparently one of the problems they have run up against is that Saddam refuses to fly out of fear of being shot down, and no neighboring countries want to agree to allow him to travel overland for fear his convoy will be attacked while in their country. That suggests that he has been approached with the idea and didn't just reject it.

Saudi Arabia has been pushing the exile option for a couple months now.
it is definitely supported by just about everybody...except Saddam Hussein apparently =).

Read an article the other day about his son who has raped and killed women for pleasure. He also has 3700 luxury cars. Now....not to say that 3700 pintos wouldnt be a mad case in itself, but 3700 luxury cars...wtf. Most of us dont even have room to park 100 cars.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines. . .
I give it 3 weeks. 4 tops. 2 weeks to get the remaining troops in place and draft a second resolution. Another week to force it through the UN then it's game on.

I'd agree with that timeline if something doesn't happen with Hussien before then.
I heard ont he raido this morning that Germany has conditionally agreed to war as a last resort. Seems the naysayers are coming onboard, albeit slowly and with reservation.

New moon on March 3rd in Iraq....you know how those crazy Americans love their night vision technology. The Air Force seems to lean towards starting bombing campaigns on moonless nights.

It has to start soon IF it is to start, because they don't want to fight during the summer.

Boy I hope they exile him. It would be nice to avoid war. Plus politically it would allow the republicans to save face having the other arab nations ban together and solidify the notion of Hussein being a leader that needs to be removed.

Can Bush be exiled back to Texas?

Did anyone else see the show on Discovery last night? Think it was called "Why can't they just kill Saddam?". Was very interesting. Talked about how he came to power, how he rules the people using fear, how he tortures people, how he tests his security forces, etc... Really good show imo.

I heard something about us just surrounding Baghdad and letting everyone who does not wish to fight just walk out, then starve the opposition.
Anyone heard anything about this strategy? Seems like a pretty good option to oust the POS with minimum casulties on all sides.
hehe

I've seen specials on Sadaam Hussein. He is no dumby, all of his communication setups are fiberoptics and are under ground. Also I have heard that he has doubles of him running around at other places, making them think they know where he is but its not him, and so on and so forth. he is one of the smartest leader ive seen, if only he wasnt on the "I wanna rule the world kick"

hehe. Anyhow they have tunnels, and routs that make afganistans tunnels look like holes in the ground, and thats how sadaam got away in the gulf war, slipping through the underground passages, and out.

Sadaam is very good at using politics to his advantage. However, as a general of men and armies, he is severly lacking. To put it bluntly, he is teh suck.

"Anyhow they have tunnels, and routs that make afganistans tunnels look like holes in the ground, and thats how sadaam got away in the gulf war, slipping through the underground passages, and out."
Is it? I thought how he got away is that we did not go into Bagdad after him, and pulled out after we won the war in 100 hours or so. Perhaps if we had finished it then, thousands of Kurds would still be alive and we would not be worrying about this maniac now.

For the chronologically impaired
August 2, 1990 Iraq invades Kuwait
November 29, 1990 U.N. Security Council authorizes the use of force to remove Iraq from Kuwait
January 15, 1991 United Nations deadline for Iraqi withdrawal
January 17, 1991 Air attack begins on Iraq at 2:38 AM (local time)
February 24, 1991 Ground war begins
February 28, 1991 Ceasefire implemented

For the chronologially impaired, part 2.
Saddam carried out a campaign against the Kurds in the 1980s in retaliation for their support of Iran
On March 16, 1988, Iraqi warplanes bombed the town of Halabja, where about 80,000 Kurds lived. International scientists later determined that the attack involved multiple chemical agents, including mustard gas and sarin
After the Persian Gulf War, with Saddam still in power, the United States urged the Kurds to rise up and overthrow him but offered no assistance.
Saddam's forces quickly crushed the revolt, killing thousands of Kurds and sending some 1.5 million more scrambling through the mountains, headed for Turkey.
Creation of the no-fly zone and the Kurdish safe area in northern Iraq followed soon after.

I am sure we can get a SEAL team to go in and snatch him out and deliver him to safety before anyone would even know he was gone.

I say we open a 7-11 in Iraq, then just kill the cashier daily. Eventually, we'll get to Saddam.

thats a funny one, disarm him and mind our own business because he obviously won't rearm himself.

Under the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, they say, the US administration can give opposition groups goods and services - including training - worth up to $97 million. So far it has used $1m of that total.

There was a Street protester on a Minneapolis Street yesterday with a huge wooden sign that read.
"Say No To War, Support or Troops"
Now it was 43 degrees in Minnesota yesterday and it was melting the snow at an amazing pace.
I swear I tried to miss the Puddle
