New GPU in an old PC

Someone brought this up, didn't see it on a quick search. Did a similar upgrade when the wife's GPU crapped out recently. Performance boost was noticeable w/ her Core2 Duo e7600. Kind of long in the tooth but the board supports PCIe 2.0 and nothing is CPU-bound (yet).
Summary answer: Yes, speeds it up nicely.

Only problem I've run into recently was that the HW has dropped off the cheap pricing curve. When mine popped it's clogs last year it was cheaper to move to a Core i5 2500k.
