NHL 2011

Post by Canelek »

Hah! I forgot hockey was back on.

Flyers off to a 3-0 start, with the first two road games taken at Boston and New Jersey. This is a great start that will ultimately pave the road to another tragic playoff disappointment. :)

Pens v. Caps...tonight...already the biggest rivalry meeting up in the schedule. Two undefeated (in regulation) juggernauts ply their skills against one another in the first week of icy action.

I'm slightly geeked for tonight's game, yep.

I don't know if I'll ever fit in here in USAdia. Most USAdian sport fans are talking about baseball in October, which to me is a bunch of standing, spitting and watching one guy run if the ball gets hit. October is all about the start of the NHL to me!

The news I am most excited about it Sid finally being cleared to practice with contact. He was the best player in the world before he was sidelined and I hope he can be again.

My Isles are looking decent early on. I hope Johnny T can take that next step.

The Leafs have won a couple, but I know they'll stumble soon and often, leaving Southern Ontario in tears while the rest of us shake our heads and chuckle at the hubris of their fans.

The Avalanche intrigue me in Denver. A lot of young talent.

The Kings look like they could be on the verge of great things to me (you're welcome Trekkie Poo) although it broke my heart to see them ship away Wayne Simmonds to Cannobeer's Flyers.

The Wings are in transition to me, but always strong.

The Flyers look solid and I'd bet on them returning to deep in the playoffs before I would the Canuckleheads in Hongcouver.

There will be no repeat for the Bruins, but they'll still fare better than the Habs so all be right in the hockey world :p

And poor Loserpeg: they get the Jets MK II but they will be woeful.

p.s. the Rangers still suck. Fuck Glen Sather.

The Wings are already on a rampage. They are deep as ever with some sick lines, and are making good decisions on the ice. Abdelkader, Helm and Hudler are going to break the game wide open, Bertuzzi is on another level, and Kronwall will step up as Lidstrom fades away over the next few years (no need to mention Zetterburg / Datzyuk at this point).

Looking great for Detroit sports right now.

Nah. He went to Russia and played a couple years in the KHL because the NHL teams got tired of overpaying him to sulk on their benches. There was a lot of interest regenerated though after the Olympics, where he showed some of the old Jagr, and Philly was willing to go double what anyone else was.

Yea, that's quite the rampage.
Meanwhile, back on earth... The Leafs are the best team in the NHL.

A friend of mine used to say "those who shit fast, don't shit for long". I think that sums up most people's thoughts on the Maple Laughs.

I don't know wth is happening with the Wings but the rampage is looking like its Toronto-style.

I thought, that for all the hand wringing, Bruce Boudreau did the smart thing by benching Ovechkin: it lit a fire under him, and if it lasts, Boudreau looks like a coaching god.

It's looking like Sid is almost ready to return to play, and I'm happy to see it.

Edmonton too is having a not bad year so far. I thought Ryan Smyth was done.

The biggest surprise for me so far is Columbus being last place. I thought for sure they were going to make the playoffs with their new addition.

Also, I wish the Canadians would get a move on things! Why did they ever get Gomez?!

They were the best team in the NHL the last 2+ months of last season and are right up there this season.
27-13-6 over 46 games. That's a pretty long run.
They have a lot of good, young players and solid goaltending.

I think it's a pretty safe bet they'll make the playoffs this year.

Wings are back in rampage mode. Poor Eaves, though.
