Did this my first year working with SQL Server:



I am production now, so I really do not have to worry about that oops since I keep my team's DEV work to our CMDB (ITIL DBA ).

I love the people who think that rebooting their computer is turning off and on the monitor.

I would sometimes partially unplug various components or the PC itself...people would freak and I would get free points (in some cases, Lakers tickets) when I saved their day...

Ah the good old days...

Troubleshooting mail errors, to find out the finance folks at the client site had eaten the mailserver sending nekkid pictures of themselves back and forth. ,/shudder

I'm still working on the "Gone Postal" one.

"Well there's your trouble" Flew to KC from Tampa as they wouldn't give remote access, "and I wouldn't find it anyway". I told them what was wrong after 1 cli command They'd spent days trying to chase it down.

Spent the rest of the day documenting it then arguing with them as they didn't want to spend the money to fix it. Charged them for a $150 dinner at Hereford House and flew back to Tampa.

Though I'm not in IT, some of these can be associated with programming and designing circuit boards.

INSANITY is my least favorite and has me worried the most when it happens. MAGIC SMOKE too is a good one.

Airflow restrictions and hot temps will destroy a data center with that kind of cable "management." it looks real, too. Perplexing.

Have done most of then, apart from the SQL ones .

And the Line Cutter one is for dummies, everyone can have a user call just after making a ticket....then fun only starts when the user call our boss, your boss come and shout at you, you go talk to the helpdesk to find out what the hell is going on, and while you do that, the user call to report the error


And I'm sad, but i miss the Aerola Bold, found hidden porn in a lot of places, but never in the fonts folder

Tearing apart a lab built in the 50s, the raised decks were about 4', who knows for what reason. The techs from the 70s-90s took advantage of that by never removing a cable, they just cut the ends off and stuffed them under the floor.

Filled semi trailer sized dumpsters with cable clearing it out. Hopefully we were smart enough to sell it.

There needs to be some sort of Downgrade-a-tron achievement.

Since my company was bought by IBM over a year ago, we are finally to the point where we are being forced to switch from Exchange to Lotus Notes. *SADFACE* Of course, this is going to cost a fortune to go backwards in time!

Luckily, SQL Server is so embedded, it would be damn near impossible to go to DB2 entirely....at least that is what I tell my minions.

Line-cutter...yeah, all the time! I am in the process of writing up control-point documentation to help curb the drive bys from developers who need help with query/report performance issues. I found out my team is spending an average of 30 hours(collectively) a week with this one-off bullshit.

we're finally making the upgrade this Fall. bet we could just trade hardware!
