When PS became popular, it was certainly lens flare. Tbh, now it would have to be over-saturation of pseudo-HDR :)

They're both irritating, though I still find lens flare in video games or other CGI intensely irritating. Perhaps people with bad lasik appreciate it.

I don't understand the obsession with lens flare. I get that it can occur at times naturally during filming but some directors go out of their way to include it. To me it takes me out of the experience since when I'm out in the world I don't see lens flare with my eyes. Seeing it in a movie is just distracting and reminds me I'm watching a filmed story.
