Sucker Punch

Post by masteen »

The trailers are visually stunning, and the cast are all super hot and dressed up as school girls with guns.

Hopefully they don't feel the need to hammer home elementary plot points over and over and over and over so the downines can feel clever that they "get it."

I'm assuming it's an allusion to people with lesser intelligence and/or have Down Syndrom.

I think I'm tired of all these supernatural cg movies. Yes, in this movie's case, it makes sense, but I'm just tired of the look in general.

another movie that will never even get entered into the netflix queue

This will be the first movie I've gone to see in the theater in quite some time. Hot girls, dragons, and action... what more could you ask for?

It looks fun to me but I don't think I'll make it to the theater to see it unless user reviews are especially great. Zack Snyder has been a very consistent director IMO. I've liked everything he's done a great deal. Dawn of the Dead (remake), 300, Watchmen, were all great (I haven't seen the CGI Owl movie yet). I think his style will be interesting in his upcoming Superman reboot.

Story wise you'll be going "what the hell is going on?" a lot, and overall isn't too great. The visuals tho, are friggin' amazing. It's like geek porn.

If you went into this movie looking for a complex, plot-driven narrative, I think you need a quick session with this guy:

This movie was the last moments of a dying prefrontal cortex. It plays out like a hallucination, because that's exactly what it is. Unlike some previous movies where they felt the need to explain their dream-within-dream mechanics in terms a syphilitic orangutan could grasp, this movie doesn't let the stupid in until the very end.

The more bad reviews I read about this movie, especially by critics who fell all over themselves sucking Chris Nolan's cock for Inception, the more I believe that these people don't really understand much about movies. Not every movie should try to be Citizen Kane.

This was fairly fun. Certainly better than the utter bore of Watchmen. Sorry, had my fill of stylized slow-mo after-kill-posing-in-three-point-stance. Got old after the first Matrix movie.

That said, it was composed nicely and the action sequences were fun. Great sound and color. The story as a whole was not cohesive, but was tidily wrapped up. A bit connect the dots, but certainly not unoriginal in its own way. I suppose that has more to do with the director since that is kind of his MO, aside from Dawn of the Dead, which was a pretty cool zombie flick that "borrowed" Romero's title to draw a larger initial audience even though it had fuck-all to do with the original aside from cameos.

5/10 - watchable

PS: Please. Tell the shellcasing CGI specialist to stop, stop, stop doing that.
