While we're at it...
Not looking for a song that epitomises the 90s, just your favorite song, overall.
Mine would have to be:

November 1989. OK, my bad. Missed being in the 90's by one fucking month.

I don't know that I'd call it my *favorite* song of the 90's, but "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots will forever remind me of summertime in general and one of my favorite summers in particular, so it'll always have a special place in my heart.
Choosing a single favorite from the whole decade would be near impossible for me.

LOL wrong thread/deacde. That song was my favorite all through high school. For the 90's though, I'd have to pick something by Tori Amos, just can't decide what. Maybe "Pretty Good Year" or "God"

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nivana
Half of the above songs wouldn't have seen the light of day were it not for Nirvana.

I know, it is favorite song, but just about the whole Pearl Jam album "Ten" is great. My frineds and I used to listen to it while driving up and down the mountains of CO on our mini road trips when I was in high school.
And they made it wether or not Nirvana ever did.

The 90s were my college years. My recollections are of a song that went something like...
gimme that donkey butt and them big ole legs
I ain't to proud to beg
ain't no shame in this game
I'm gonna break it down and beg like James
Please...please... please...
Lemme Ride That Donkey Donkey
Lemme Ride That Donkey Donkey
Anyone know the name of the song?

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up front
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got
Me so horny
Ooh, rub all of that smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz
Well use me, use me cuz you ain't that average groupy
I've seen them dancin'
The hell with romancin'
She sweat, wet, got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette
I'm tired of magazines
saying flat butt's the only thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back, so
Fellas (yeah), fellas (yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back
(LA face with Oakland booty)
I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal
Now here's my scandal
I wanna get you home
And ugh, double ugh, ugh
I ain't talkin' bout Playboy
Cuz silicone parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mixalot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sistas
I wanna get with ya
I won't cus or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna fuck
Til the break of dawn
Baby, I got it goin on
A lot of pimps won't like this song
Cuz them punks like to hit it and quit it
But I'd rather stay and play
Cuz I'm long and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on
So ladies (yeah), ladies (yeah)
If you wanna role in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around
Stick it out
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back
(LA face with the Oakland booty)
Yeah baby
When it comes to females
Cosmo and got nothin to do with my selection
36-24-36
Only if she's 5'3"
So your girlfriend rolls a Honda
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hon
You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that hard role
and tell you that the butt need to go
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So Cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that
Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin'
And I'm thinkin' bout stickin'
To the beanpole dames in the magazines
You ain't it Miss Thang
Give me a sista I can't resist her
Red beans and rice didn't miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
Cuz his girls were on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And pulled up quick to get with 'em
So ladies if the butt is round
And you wanna triple X throw down
Dial 1-900-mixalot and kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back

Dr. Dre - Nuthin' but a G Thang
This is easily tied with Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit for biggest song of the 90's.

I've read a bunch of the music threads here and now I've finally decided to post in one.
I've never been very good at picking one favorite, so here are a few of my faves from the 90s:
"Allison" - Slowdive (Souvlaki)
"Ease Your Feet in the Sea" Belle and Sebastian (The Boy with the Arab Strap)
"Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása" - Sigur Ros (ágætis Byrjun)
As for best album of the 90s, my vote would be for either The Bends, ágætis Byrjun, or Loveless by My Bloody Valentine.

Yea, Black would probably be one of the best songs of the 90s (off their Ten album)... Awesome arrangement...
Even though it wouldnt be a 'best' song, my most favorite 90s song would be something more along the lines of Tool - Prison Sex or something.

Jane's Addiction was kind of trapped between the 80's and 90's. They were at the core of the grunge music even though they were from SoCal. The Ritual de lo Habitual album ranks up there as one of the best albums of the decade, and I'm surprised they've been overlooked as much as they have. Perry Ferrel is a hop-head, but he's the one that got the Lollapalooza ball rolling. Three Days is one seriously fucked up song.

I've got a few favorites:
Radiohead - "Paranoid Android" (off of Ok Computer, the finest album of the 90s)
Spacehog - "In the Meantime" (Great pop-rock song. The kind of stuff Brian Wilson would have been doing had he been born later)
Nirvana - "The Man Who Sold the World" (An awesome cover of perhaps Bowie's best song. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was more influential, but not nearly as great)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Soul to Squeeze" (Best. RHCP song. EVER.)
Toad the Wet Sprocket - "All I Want" (This song just makes me happy)
...and who could forget...
Haddaway - "What Is Love? (Baby Don't Hurt Me)" (This song is the single greatest musical composition in the history of human civilization)

Oh god the 90's, sniff, I still miss that decade. No way I can possibly narrow down to my favorite song, but I really loved Tori Amos/Cranberries, the whole female rock scene really got me when I was in college.

There are a number of songs that I like that were already posted... but one that hasn't been mentioned yet:
Bullet with Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins
Oh and another song I really liked was White Zombie's "Electric Head pt 2"

I cant think much of what I listened to enough to narrow it to my favorite.
I know I played the hell out of the 'Live' cd (which ever one was pea green).
I liked most of whats listed above Amos, Cranberries, Alice in Chains(nutshell is my fav), Silverchair,Pearl Jam (black) etc.
As for pop/dance whatever..I know my favorite club song was 'Freestyle - Dont Stop The Rock'. That song still gets played at our clubs.
Couldnt narrow it down to one.

Classic answer: Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit (because MTV/VH1 and every radio station say so.)
Considered answer: Eric Clapton - Layla or Tears in Heaven (from Eric Clapton MTV Unplugged 1992)
