Free play weekend

Post by Aslanna »

Starting at 10:00am PDT, Friday October 8 through October 11 at 10:00am PDT, we will be delivering the following:

1. All Accounts Closed (but in good standing) will be given access to the game!

2. Double Experience!!

...
For some people 4 days might be all the EQ they need.

Took a while to figure out where to download the game again from. I have had nothing but problems with the Station Launcher, and I refused to go that route. No idea what to expect when I log in. I know that the last time I was in-game, all I really did was wander around the CD guild hall and glance at the new UI elements.

Will probably log in for a few over the weekend at least.

Haha, I might too, just for the hell of it. I don't think I've logged into my account in ~5 years.

Last time there was a free weekend I DLed the entire game and couldn't figure out how the hell to log in anymore. I would be curious to check it out again, but not curious enough to put the effort into it!

Logged in for a bit. Had finally been kicked from CD, so I couldn't wander the guild hall anymore. The game looked VERY dated compared to most anything I have played recently.

Popped on for a bit, seems pretty much the same as it was in 2004(?) when I stopped playing.

Couldn't think of anything I actually wanted to do so logged off again.

That.

Only way I'd come back in any way would be if it went free to play (e.g. Runes of Magic) permanently.

I signed in Aedari and had no idea wtf was going on. Grouped with a rogue who was proc'ing poison effects for like 9000 damage and I felt inferior.

The sad part is that I could probably still find my way through Blackburrow and Runnyeye. Who wants to race to the KFC in SK? :D

Heh, I can still go through a lot of the dungeons in my minds eye. But I wouldn't install the game again. Best to leave the memories where they are rather than ruin them by loading it up and going "oh my god, how did I ever play this?".

Yeah, I can picture so much of the original continents along with Kunark and Velious in my mind. (Some of PoP). I understand they changed some of the zones so that would suck though.

Note:
The original EQ would still be more fun than FFXIV.

Tier 3! Yeah those tasks and missions are fairly good XP. 4% regular XP or 4 AA so they add up after awhile. Plus a chance at some decent loots. HoT seems better than UF so far. A bit too many see invis mobs though which gets annoying.

Yeah things are crazy these days. As a Monk I'm about 50,000HP. I was looking through some old screen shots and I was 4,500HP on a Dain raid back in Velious.

I remember racing someone (Stumpyy?) from Guk entrance to L Guk with our monitors turned off. Fourth or fifth attempt I made it without falling into the water on the way. I must have run that path a few thousand times.

I wonder if we'll ever again see dungeons that feel as organic as those?

I loaded it up again and I don't even know where to go or where people congregate or what to do since it's a grouping max level game where i'm nowhere near the max level. I also noticed one of my characters must have last logged off in misty thicket and was now unable to log in again.
