I thought you all might get a kick out of this.

It appears the mystery of the medallion found in a codfish in Fortune Bay last August has been solved.
Several readers contacted ‘The Southern Gazette’ last week identifying the object as a collectible item included when purchasing the retail box version for the online role playing videogame ‘EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath’ released in 2003.
The medallion, which in this case was attached to a string to form a necklace, was originally part of a keychain that included the ‘EverQuest’ logo.
It was discovered in the mouth of a codfish off Harbour Mille Cape, during last year’s recreational fishery.
Luke Myles, 13, was visiting from Grand Prairie, Alberta, last year and went on the fishing expedition with his grandfather Guy Hackett, of English Harbour East, in Peter Clarke’s boat last August when the medallion was found.
The boy had tried numerous avenues to identify the object over the past year without any luck. Back again for another visit, he and his grandfather stopped by The Gazette’s office in Marystown earlier this month.

I came across mine yesterday, the CD cases from original EQ (989 Studios!) through Planes of Power. I'm pretty sure I have one of the collections as well that I bought when I bought a new PC to make re-installation easier.

Funny, was organizing my bookshelves and found some old copys of pc gamer. I remember reading the reviews on EQ and looking at the graphics and thinking who the hell would play that? Amongst my boxed collections of EQ cd's I too found my beta cd's

, I do miss the folks and that sense of wonder each time I logged on but now in my life would never be able to play a game like EQ was in the beginning. Once in a lifetime experience and I am glad I was apart of it. In some ways it seems like it was only yesterday. Camp check?

Ah EQ,
Here's a thread that can spark some memories:
http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/46246
Interesting how many of the people mention enjoying the slow travel and sense of danger. I remember my first trip from Qeynos to Freeport. My nervis were huge the entire trip. Half of it was spent traveling at night where my barb shaman couldn't see shit. When we arrived in Freeport and finally got someone to bind us, it was a huge sense of accomplishment. Back then, there was no telling if you'd be able to recover your corpse and equipment if you got lost on long trip and died. I remember then venturing just a little ways out of East Freeport at night, seeing a full group of players battle mean looking Orcs and thought to myself that I need a to level up some more to face those vicious creatures. I hadn't even made it over the sand dune to Dorn yet.
I made the Queynos to Freeport many many times. I'd buy chain BPs from a smith in Freeport for 20P and then run all the way back to Qeynos and tell them for 40P where there weren't any smiths yet in Halas to make them, big time money back then! I could only carry 6 BP's at a time without slowing down. I enjoyed the trip every time even though it was like 25 minutes back then (including zone loading etc).
Loved the West Karana midi music...not sure why but it was so relaxing.
Here's the classic "Has anyone seen my corpse" put to some images from the early EQ days:

This was soon after Aruman beat me to Grizzleknot and got the Bark for to complete his Shammy Totemic Armor after I had been camping him for the better part of a month. Bastard! I got the Pegasus Cloak though while I was waiting around!
Check out my sweet Mith Bracers and Rubicite BP though!
Readnig the comments about Gizzleknot is a great reminder on how rare some spawns were in EQ:

The boy had tried numerous avenues to identify the object over the past year without any luck.
I guess he didn't try to google 'Everquest'

Would have made more sense if the piece he had SAID Everquest. There were two different parts to that keychain. He only had the half covered in runes.
