May 2003 - "Mission Accomplished"
June 2005 - "The mission isn't easy, and it will not be accomplished overnight"

What are you talking about, it was a loan that has already begun being paid back. The big 3 all just posted profits for the first time since 2004, and we're coming up on 60,000 auto-industry jobs having been created, the first time that's happened in like 10 years.
"It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant."- Barack Obama
I'm not sure who/what you are attacking with this post. GM? George Bush? Obama? Bailouts?
In September, 2008 the Big Three asked for $50 billion to pay for health care expenses and avoid bankruptcy and ensuing layoffs, and Congress worked out a 25$ billion loan. By December, President Bush had agreed to an emergency bailout of $17.4 billion to be distributed by the next administration in January and February
In the past year, the US auto industry created over 55k jobs... I'm pretty sure the total job loss would have been tenfold if your government had chosen to not bail them out.

I wouldn't mind buying an electric car or a hybrid but they make them all so ugly I would be embarrassed to drive one, except of course a tesla, but I can't afford one of those.

Tesla is working on a model that will only cost around 30k.

And look as ugly as a Prius?
I don't get why nice looking cars have to be expensive. Just because an engine doesn't put out 500 horsepower or whatever doesn't mean car makers can't stick a nice looking body on it.
Although if I'm honest I don't really like the red/black color scheme of that particular Tesla shown in the picture.
The Tesla sedan currently under development is actually pretty nice looking. It won't initially be in the 30k range. They expect the next version to be in the 50-60k realm, and the follow-on generation to be about half of that.
Car modeling is a scam. The car companies could throw a fancy expensive looking exteriors on a cheap cars if they felt like it.
I really don't car what my car looks like though. Grow up people.
As long as it has decent acceleration 0-60 and can cruise up to 75mph with decent mpg, I could give a shit if it looks like a Brady Bunch Station Wagon.
We agree on that, Winnow. I'm pretty utilitarian about my transportation. I prefer something that's efficient, safe, dependable and doesn't cost a fortune because there are other things that I'd rather spend money on than a machine to get me from point a to point b. That said, I can appreciate a nice looking car when I see it.

Atypical Geek writes "Charles Lane, writing for Slate, argues that subsidies for electric cars are an example of 'limousine liberalism' — a lavish gift for well-off Americans to buy expensive cars for the sake of appearing green. From the article: 'How rarefied is the electric-car demographic? When Deloitte Consulting interviewed industry experts and 2,000 potential buyers, it found that from now until 2020, only "young, very high income individuals" — from households making more than $200,000 a year — would even be interested in plug-in hybrids or all-electric cars.' Lane also takes issue with the billions of dollars in subsidies offered to automakers for the manufacture of batteries, arguing that research (warning, PDF) concludes that the money will not help in jump-starting the economies of scale that will drive down prices. At least, not as much or as quickly as the President has argued."

Yeah, one of several things to dislike about the Bush presidency. Amnesty, prescriptions drugs, and "no child" were some others. Like Obama, he said one thing to get elected and then kissed up to the wacky left.

I'd need imaginary irrational numbers to express how bad a president I think Dubya was.
