Holy shit these are a lot more of these games in the works that I though.
Regardless, which one of these do you think you'll be playing most in the future. I've added existing titles due to upcoming expansions keeping older offerings somewhat fresh still.
Edit* FUCK!! URL's don't work in polls.

Shadowbane - If it ever comes out, it should have a small, loyal playerbase.
Fung Wan Online - Never heard of it
Horizons - It's not the same 'Horizons' that the rabid fanboys creamed thier pants about...
Planetside - Looks cool, I'm definately going to check it out.
EVE Online - I can't see the appeal of Eve... but it has a rabid legion of fans.
A Tale in the Desert - Very refreshing game. Beta'd for it forever.
City of Heroes - Avril Lavigne has more staying power than this yawner of a game.
Lineage2:The Chaotic Chronicle - #1 in Korea!!!
Star Wars:Galaxies -
Everquest 2 -
EQ Online Advantures - Hehe, who cares?
World of Warcraft - Who isn't going to at least try it? I'm guessing Q4 2005.
Dark Age of Camelot - poo
Anarchy Online - An aquired taste.
World War 2 online - poo
You forgot that steaming pile of crap called Neocron... and the "MMOG-for-dummies", AC2.

I've got 99 problems and I'm not dealing with any of them - Lay-Z
I am going to be playing SWG in April.
I will probably pick up EQ2 when it comes out, but that won't be until 2006 probably. I can't see Sony releasing another EQ to compete with itself, and people refuse to stop playing the first one.
Planetside looks awesome, but I will probably only play it if Sony comes out with some sort of deal for multiple subscriptions to their games. I don't envision myself paying $10-12 for a FPS, persistant world or not.

I'm gunna test drive EQOA and if that sucks I planned on checking out Shadowbane. If all else fails there's always EQ2 and other stuff somewhere!

I believe that the standard path for max. customer retention in these types of games is going to be to release new totally new games under the same flag as the previous successful title.kyoukan type-R wrote: I will probably pick up EQ2 when it comes out, but that won't be until 2006 probably. Anyone have numbers on how well Turbine is doing in the retention area from AC1 to AC2?
That's their official release date. Shadowbane is going live very much around that time too I believe.Miir wrote: April 2004?
No, LucasArts has pretty much commited to having it out April 25 (a couple months from now). Although last week Koster announced that they had to cull some features out to be patched in a few months after release, he also said that it's on target.miir wrote:April 2004?I am going to be playing SWG in April
It probably won't be a finished product when it comes out, but what MMORPG ever was?

Final Fantasy Online, once the PC version hits the shelves in the US (will be a while, I know). I enjoyed all the single player FF games and the same concept and story people worked on the online version. If it doesn't hit america in the PC form and I still have an urge to play another MMORPG, I will probably give WoW a try.
I will never touch another SOE product (or for that matter, Sigil product) ever again. SOE is doing the same shit with SWG that they did with EQ, specifically promissing features that it cannot (or will not) deliver on release and will never likely be seen. They are also making a big deal out of how no one will be a jedi (using permadeath as a deterant) when we know damn well that if they actually have their jedi system implemented (fat fucking chance of this) at release, spoilers will be out within a month of release. Everything in SWG press releases sounds like the worst mistakes of EQ being repeated, only this time you get to do it with thousands of dewds named Look Skeyewalkrrrr running around all over. Sadly this game will probably be one of the few MMORPG successes, since if they took a crap in a box with a picture of a wookie on the outside of it, people would still buy it.
Sigil has some good design people, but no real plan to speak of and what I have heard suggests another game like EQ really. Running around weaker than rats, naked, with a rusty thinble was amusing the first time around, but if they want a game that is going to really grab people they need to abandon the whole Diku Mud model and do something new, where people can jump in and have fun right away instead of the old school hike across five zones spending an hour shouting for a group so you can eek out a sliver of XP. They made a really great game in EQ, but the whole treadmill aspect they put in from the start has been taken to ludicrous levels since. No one wants to go through that shit again.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Shadowbane - Until this ships, it's still vaporware. Additionally, most of the fans of this game are assholes. I will not purchase this game.
Fung Wan Online - Never heard of it.
Horizons - Until this ships, it's still vaporware. When it does finally ship, I expect it to suck. I will not buy this game.
Planetside - Really looking forward to this. I really hope it lives up to the hype. I will buy this game.
EVE Online - Never heard of it.
A Tale in the Desert - I heard about this game from a friend that was in beta (probably because of Miir). He seemed to like it, but it didn't sound all that interesting. Based on what I've heard so far, I probably wouldn't buy it.
City of Heroes - I am waiting for reviews/release, but I expect this to be an arcadey MMORPG for dummies. Probably won't purchase.
Lineage2:The Chaotic Chronicle - Not interested.
Star Wars:Galaxies - I was in beta, it looks spectacular, I'm not sure I can work up the interest to play this. I also expect the playerbase to suck. I have no current plans to purchase this.
Everquest 2 - This is my best hope for the future. I will buy this game based on what I know now.
EQ Online Advantures - I'm not buying a console anytime soon, so this is basically out.
World of Warcraft - I'm currently pissed off that night elves didn't make the game, but it's a Blizzard game which means it will be a quality product, and probably fun to play for at least a little while.
Dark Age of Camelot - This game was asstastic. It had no soul. I regret playing with it other than the friends I played with who I knew from EQ.
Anarchy Online - I liked AO a lot. It's graphically stunning. Unfortunately, the gameplay felt too much like a hamster wheel for me, and I lost interest. Some really cool enhancements in EQ came from AO. Item linking anyone? Having said that, I doubt I'll play it again

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Where did they say Night Elves wouldn't be in it? Taurens are in, and they're from Kalimdor. I'd like to think both Night and Blood elves would be in - who makes a fantasy game without elves =pWorld of Warcraft - I'm currently pissed off that night elves didn't make the game
As to topic, I'll play EQ2/WoW whichever comes out first, probably try SWG after release and will try some Planetside.

I'm definitely gonna play SWG when it comes out in a couple months. It's got such mass appeal that a few RL friends are gonna give it a try. However, I fear that it will be overrun with 1337 J3|)I wannabes. I'm not gonna be able to take it if every other toon is named some variant of "Bubba Frat" or "Darpth Wang." Personally, I just wanna slaughter Gungans.
EQ2 I have my doubts about. I'm intrigued by the prospect of a "different but the same" world to explore, but I have my reservations because I just know that the current live team in EQ is gonna get migrated over to EQ2.
WoW could be kickass, if we get the same Blizzard that brought us WC2 and Starcraft. It will lick balls if we get the Blizzard that brought us Diablo and Warcraft 3. The pure suck that is WC3 makes me think that WoW will not only suck, but take 2 years longer than planned to suck.
Sigil's game could rock, as they have the world builders that created all the interwoven lore that made Norrath come alive. Then again they could all go John Carmak crazy...

Hey, Fungul and I are currently enjoying Shadowbane and we aren't assholes Ara!
It will be released in March, they just patched to Release Candidate 1.
Lots of improvements of late, I'm preordering soon.
Fuck SWG.

I'm really curious to know why all the fans of Shadowbane are assholes. I've met lots of great people during my time surfing the devboards. People like the Mithril Alliance, a group of people devoted to dwarves (who just so happen to be the greatest fantasy race ever conceived) are a great group to hang with and talk shop. True, there are jerks, but I do recall quite a few trolls here in VV, and in Everquest, and in...well, everywhere you go. Overall, it's a great community which has hung together even after so many setbacks to the project.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. As anyone who chats with me in game knows, my free time is teh suk. There just won't be anything left to give in order to start all over again. Planetside sounds interesting though and I will give it a shot because it looks as if i won't have to spend my life in game to make a difference (ie. Shadowbane). I'm also kinda interested in PSO for the Xbox. I think it will be kinda cool to play that game with voice chat.Canelek wrote:Probably Planetside. I figure by the time I am ready to hang it up here, I won't be able to commit any more energy to a MMORPG, cept for something with guns.

You *can't* compete with yourself. If they lose an EQ customer to EQ2, they keep the same monthly fee, plus they gain the capitol from the EQ2 purchase. It's a no-lose situation for them.kyoukan type-R wrote:I will probably pick up EQ2 when it comes out, but that won't be until 2006 probably. I'm going to try real hard not to play another MMORPG, doesn't mean I won't end up playing one, but I;m going to try not to.
My problem with MMORPG's is that they never end....I have a thing about playing to win....and I can't really win without devoting 40+ hours a week to them to stay near the top of the curve.
I've recently realized since CT broke up that there is a LOT of shit to do besides play video games, I have friends over all the time, we go skiing, to bars, parties, movies, just chilling with my brothers...like last night I tought my brother how to drive stick and I had 2 friends come over to say hi, plus working a little on male-female relationships heh.
I still have a decent amount of freetime though, maybe 3 hours a day when I don't have guests over...and MMORPG's cost a lot less then say going skiing, I think I spent $240 on lift tickets this month, maybe $400 on party supplies like beer and chips. EQ would have kept me busy longer and cost $12.95
But I think I'm going to get a gym membership etc to fill that time, maybe do some home improvement projects. I'm still debating which lifestyle I prefer....but I'm giving this one a few more weeks.

Yeah but it makes a big difference in sales and size of the game if half your potential customer base won't buy it because they don't feel like stopping playing EQ yet. It costs a lot of money to market and promote a new game, and all that server hardware is fucking expensive. It just makes more sense to sit on it until the previous one is more or less finished. This is why UO2 got cancelled.Neroon wrote:You *can't* compete with yourself. If they lose an EQ customer to EQ2, they keep the same monthly fee, plus they gain the capitol from the EQ2 purchase. I picked EQ2 mostly because it depends on how it compares to EQ, and whether or not characters will transfer over (I'm guessing not). I already play AO casually.
SW:G - not going to play it unless I get railroaded into it by friends. Even then I won't stick with it for very long.
WoW - ditto
WWII Online - game was a massive flop, a shame since I am a WWII buff.
EQOA - uh, no.
DAoC - tried it, EQ Lite that evaporates when you get to the top end game.
Lineage - This is one of the dumbest games I've ever had the misfortune of loading, and it amazes me that Koreans kill each other over this shit.
Planetside - If this game carries off as well as I hope, I'll sign up for it.
Horizons - I expect the hype to be far greater than the game.
Shadowbane - Looks good, doubt I'll play it.
FFXI/Online - My fiancee is a big PSX2 player, and really likes Square's games (except Brave Fencer Musashi). She loves the FF series, so she'll probably end up trying this out. If she gets into it heavily, I'll probably play it.
The other games listed I've never really heard of.
