Fright Night (1985) DVD review

Post by Fairweather Pure »

A teen in the 'burbs is convinced an actual vampire has moved in across the street. No one believes him though. His mother is conviced he watches too many horror movies and it's going to his head, while his girlfriend (Marcy from Married With Chldren! Ya, I know!) just wants him to pay more attention to her instead of the monster across the street. The teen and his friends evetually recruit an actor who hosts a late night horror program to help them defeat the vampire.

I love me some Fright Night. It's 80's horror with plenty of 80's cheese. I was 11 when this came out, so it was just scary and campy enough to be totally radical to me at the time. Overall, the movie doesn't stand the test of time as well as other 80's horror such as The Lost Boys, but it certianly holds up better than most thanks in large part to it's outstanding special effects.

My wife watched the entire movie with me and really liked it. HOWEVER! At one point when the vampire was on screen she proclaimed "Hey that's Prince Humperdink from Princess Bride". Well fuck. Now all I can think about it Prince fucking Humperdink from The Princess Bride whenever he appears on screen.

Btw, this movie had a sequel that I vaugely remember masturbating to when I was around 12 or 13 because it showed a naked vagina for about 2 seconds. I used pause. It was awesome.

Also, the kid who played he best friend (Stephen Geoffreys) went on to make hardcore gay porn (seriously! I know!).

I'm giving this a well deserved 7.5/10. It's currently slated for a remake. I have mixed feelings about that.
