America's so over this whole race thing. Go Obama!

I really want this article to be made a lot more popular than it will be. If everybody realized they're a little bit racist we'd all get along better.

Very interesting article. I imagine that if I saw father and daughter in aisle three at the grocer, I'd look for an extra second to make sure all is well. Would you?

Of course, we civilized Americans are colorblind. Sensitivity training for parents who want to adopt a child of a different race? That would be racist. This is America, where we solved the race issue by denying skin color.
Page 2 wrote:Opinions vary in the larger debate about whether race is a legitimate consideration in adoption. At present, agencies that receive public funding are forbidden from taking race into account when screening potential parents. They are also banned from asking parents to reflect on their readiness to deal with race-related issues, or from requiring them to undergo sensitivity training. But a well-meaning policy intended to ensure colorblindness appears to be backfiring. According to a study published last year by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, transracial parents are often ill equipped to raise children who are themselves unprepared for the world's racial realities.
I'd comment further, but I'm about to go hang out at a bar where a lot of white people go to listen to white people music, and I'm going with white friends. Of course, I would never usually notice that I hang around mostly white people, largely because I'm not at all racist. Not even a little. All I see is eyes and teeth.

He obviously started dipping into the alcohol before heading out to the bar. Interesting read though not groundbreaking news. America is racist... We're also sexist and homophobic. Anyone surprised?

Maybe the "Go Obama" was a belated congratulations on Obama's epic speech a year and a half ago that expressed his point of view in that racism was far from over in the US and that believing so was "naive"?

Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle-class squeeze -- a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many.

And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns -- this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding.

This is where we are right now. It's a racial stalemate we've been stuck in for years. Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, black and white, I have never been so naive as to believe that we can get beyond our racial divisions in a single election cycle, or with a single candidacy -- particularly a candidacy as imperfect as my own.

I would like to see an article of this nature done with a spin on Obama. The audacity of some of the attacks coming from the far right and center right repeatedly spewed on national tv and in fact during joint-session speeches I think are a reflection of his race and cultural background.

Would his critics be so firey and so willing to damn if he were a white dude named Joe Wilson? I tend to think not, though I do see that the issues he is facing and attempting to tackle as certainly "hot button" issues.

I'd like to see footage of how Republicans and the media treated Clinton when he went for health care reform compared to today's treatment of Obama. It might be a failed comparison since Fox News wasn't in the picture during the Clinton attempt to reform health care.

I can honestly say I wouldn't give them a second look. Nobody that kidnaps a child is going to take them to the grocery store. Not to mention in my mind I would first tend to think of them as having taken the kids friend along with them before I'd think of kidnapping. Would I think it might be their daughter before I think it was their friend? Probably not, but not because I'm racist, but because it's so uncommon as to be typical to think friend rather than child.

My Obama reference in the title is intended mock the people who saw Obama's historical election as a golden ticket to ending racial injustices and racism. I think racism is one of the more messed up parts of our great country, especially since everybody thinks they have it figured out.
