Add a cool cover

Despite my previously stated general dislike for covers, I've found myself seeking out and listening to a lot of them lately. Patti Smith's
(relatively) recent compilation of cover songs triggered this a bit, I think. Anyway, post some that you enjoy or find to be interesting.
Here's a bit of an odd one that combines two very different bands / sounds that I really dig: Ministry covering The Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil"

Hah - the incongruity of the music with the story in this video makes me think of
Hawk the Slayer.

I figured it was a good time to post since Jimi's birthday was yesterday.
Dylan is one of my all-time favorites, but I feel like Hendrix improved on it and made it his own.

These are some of the most successful covers. Both are covers of Leadbelly's songs.
Nirvana - "My Girl"

Animals - " House of The Rising Sun"

Yeah, I love Dylan's original, but Hendrix's version is the greatest, IMO. Lately, my preferred version is
Dylan's 1995 MTV Unplugged version. For some reason, I really dig it.
Speaking of Nirvana's unplugged performances,
The Man Who Sold the World is also a primo cover.

I liked nikki french's version of total eclipse of the heart more then the original. Orgy's version of blue monday was really good too.

Kev, just to clarify. Leadbelly didn't write "House of the Rising Sun." It's a very, very old folk song that has been performed and recorded by many, many musicians.

There's some good stuff in that post, Ogbar.
I even searched, but only searched for topic names containing "cover," not the contents of the thread.

The irony is, when I made that post, I was tempted to start a separate 'covers' thread but chose not to. Good call on starting this one.
More:
Voice of the Beehive - "I Think I Love You"
Metalica - "Whiskey in a Jar"
The Flying Lizards - "Money (That's What I Want)"

Cool thread. Nothing too groundbreaking from me:
Red Hot Chili Peppers covering Havana Affair (the Ramones):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvHxx9Q4vYg
John Frusciante covering Tiny Dancer (Elton John):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knxqQ8k0pOg
Not the best version of the cover, but I was actually at that concert so figured I'd throw that one up.
Richard Cheese covering Last Resort (Papa Roach):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNj82FDrfzk
This is kind of cheating, given that Richard Cheese makes a living by covering hit songs as lounge music. It's sort of ridiculous though. Especially with the video.

Another GREAT cover from Richard Cheese. This song was the best part of Dawn of The Dead(remake).

You think "Wild Thing"'s ever been covered?:
Jimi Hendrix
X - as heard in "Major League"
Divinyls - the band that did "I Touch Myself"
Sam Kinison, et al - that's Jessica Hahn he's rolling around with
The Runaways - all girl band from the '70s featuring Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West, etc

More:
The Sundays - "Wild Horses"
10000 Maniacs - "More Than This"
Cowboy Junkies - "Sweet Jane"
Steve & Eydie - "Black Hole Sun" (I shit you not)
Not sure if this one counts or not, but what the hey. Roger Daltry had a hit with this from his solo album in the early 80s. It was written by Pete Townsend, who performs it here. He wrote the song, yes, but he's not the original performer .... /shrug ... either way, it's a damn cool version of the song so enjoy:
Pete Townsend - "After The Fire"

Two more Manson Covers. I really, really like the Personal Jesus cover. It's just so odd hearing Manson sing and mention Jesus. It's got a great groove though!
Personal Jesus
Here is a fucked up cover of "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Manson has a gift of making his songs extra errie, even something fun like this.
This is Halloween
Btw, Manson videos are amoung some of my favorites because they're almost always freaky as hell, yet artsy at the same time (much like Tool videos). The uncensored version of sAINT is one of the most depraved, corrupt, and disturping videos I have ever seen, yet still holds it's artistic integritiy.

Yeah, he did a fantastic cover of that. It's from the I Am Sam soundtrack which is nothing but Beatles covers. There are quite a few really awesome ones on there and some mediocre ones, but the album is totally worth getting.

This is about the worst cover ever made. Absolute muck. Mark Ronson is an embarrasment to British music.
For me, I think Damien Rice's cover of Radiohead's "creep" is pretty exceptional.
