I'm hosting a deep frying stuff / jorts (jean shorts) party this Saturday.
Do you guys have any good suggestions or recipes for awesome things to deep fry?

Wrong forum.
I know, I know. I never look at that forum though, and I think a lot of people don't, so I posted it here.
You can talk generally about Jorts if you want. I'm feeling pretty good about potentially cracking open debate on that!

Interesting party theme. I've never heard of that one before - did you just make it up, or where did the idea come from?

well, in actuality it is to poke fun at people from Lubbock, Texas in the spirit of the UT v Texas Tech game this saturday (omgz wrong forum again!). As far as I can tell, they all only deep fry stuff and wear jorts ALL THE TIME.

There was very little fried stuff while I lived there. I have never heard of jeans shorts called jorts, but the cutoff version was called just that, cutoffs.

Oh, it's all baseless accusations. All the more reason to wear jorts and fry stuff. As far as I can help it, I'll never venture to Lubbock, or for that matter, Midland, Odessa or Abilene.

You'll be better off if you never make it to those places! I wish I hadn't

WTF jort? I grew up in Arkansas for fuck sake and never heard of that kind of crazy talk. Yet another reason Texas frightens me!

Actually...you could only allow people to have drinks in one corner of the party. Lubbock has been a dry county forever, and beer/liquor sales are only available out on the county line in an area called The Strip. There have always been an assload of stores out there with HUGE obnoxious signs to get people to choose them.

So (before I put in any effort) are you wanting actual fried foods that are good? Or are you just looking for ridiculous things to fry?

Both! Obviously we will have some staples — corny dogs, hot wings, onion rings etc — so if you have a good batter recipe for those, that would be nice. The spicier the better IMO. However, atypical foods are definetely not fried upon. I'm sure there will be a good share of "what the fuck man lets fry a carrot" moments during the party, but obviously we will be eating this food.
Yes I did make up jorts. I think it could catch on in a big way!

Ok. Tasty fried stuff.
Tempura! Assorted veggies can keep the dish on the cheap. I've got a good batter recipe at home, unfortunately I'm at work for the next 13 hours.
Also, making mini funnel cakes is pretty much essential, you just need pancake batter and a steady hand.
You mentioned most of the easy peasy essentials. But little munchies to keep people nibbling while you work on the bigger/more important dishes. Something like fries/chips. They're insanely good when they're fresh fried. You can mix it up with potato and sweet potato chips/fries, etc. Hush puppies make good nibblers too.
Anyways, I just woke up, and the game is today...so this probably isn't any help anyways.

I have never in 41 years heard jean shorts called "jorts" until this thread (and sharing in EQ2 guild chat from this thread). They are either called "cutoffs" (if they are actually jeans converted to shorts without hems etc - wore these a lot in the 70s/early 80s) or simply "shorts" (duh). If not wearing jean shorts is some sort of basis for feeling superior and you/whoever feel the need to come up with a fucking RETARDED nickname for them, then have at it.
But it's stupid if you ask me...
As for fried things, I wouldn't stray too far from the standards.
P.S. Does this mean I'm wearing clacks and a lirt at the moment (cotton slacks and linen shirt)...

If it's a party with a bunch of guys in jean shorts, the thread should be titled Deep throating stuff.
