Video Card du Jour

Since purchasing Warhammer I have decided it is time to upgrade my video card. I would seem like the 9800GTX+ is about the best for the buck. Any input?

I'm thinking SLI down the road and not sure if Crossfire (4850s?) or Nvidia is the way to go. Seems like its more of an Apple/PC or Linux/Windows argument, rather than one is clearly better.

You can't go wrong with either Nvidia or ATI these days.

My personal preference is with ATI.
I'm currently running two 3870s in Crossfire and I really don't need better performance.

The 4850 just a bit slower than the 9800GTX. The 4870 is a bit faster than the 9800GTX.
Their price points are a very good measure of performance.

Just ignore anyone who tries to argue that one chip maker is better than the other.

I can't speak for the ATI stuff, but I agree with Miir in that they should be similar.

I run 9800GTX SLI. Good stuff and relatively inexpensive for a SLI solution.

I ended up with a EVGA 9800GTX+ and for motherboard EVGA 780i SLI

Super fast, no issues. No SLI at the moment, just a single for now.

EVGA is a good brand.

I rolled with an evga gtx 260 myself, and it was faulty when I got it. The new one was at my door 48 hours later. Their customer service is the best of any card maker/reseller, whatever you want to call them...since none of the companies really make the cards, just slap stickers on and sell them.

Now is actually a great time to be in the market for video cards with the insane competition from ATI v. Nvidia. Both places have cards at very good price points that perform great. I especially like the $100 8800/9800GT that is around, along with the old ati 3870 for less than $100 too.

I had to RMA a EVGA card once.
The turn around was like 5 business days.
They have a lifetime warranty.

I had to RMA one of my EVGA cards as well. Great turnaround! I also have the EVGA 790i which is a great board. :)

I'd lean toward ATi this round if looking for a high end card. The top end nVidia cards would also get the job done but bang4buck & design favors ATi. (if you don't use Linux)

Price drops are frequent at the moment.
