Well?

Myself:

Cats (too many to count)
Dogs (3)
Goats (3)
Chickens (two dozenish)
Gerbils (4 or 5)
Chameleons (2)
Guinea Pigs (4 or so)
Fish (a couple)
Parrots (2)

I think that's it.

Cats (3) - the last one we gave away to a friend when our son was born. Believe it or not, after growing up with cats my whole life, if I'm around them long enough, my eyes start to bother me, especially if I rub them.
Gerbil (1) - science project. Was allergic to him. I think my mom threw his ass out the house hehe.
Fish (2) -Goldfish don't live too long in a bowl...
Dogs (1) - Sucks because when our son was born, we sort of neglected him. Eventually he started digging and ran away a couple times. The last time I couldn't find him. About 2 weeks later we see a neighbor walking him. They found him like 2 miles away near some gas station and took him in. We let them keep him, figured he was in better hands as they didn't have any kids or any other pets.

Next pet we want now that my son is older is another dog, preferably a border collie.

As an adult, I've owned a dog, a cat (not at the same time) and lived with a thoroughly evil, sociopath of a parrot that belonged to my ex wife.

As a kid, in my indulgent parents' home I've had fish (too many to count), dogs (3), cats (4 or 5), frogs (2), lizards (3), guinea pigs (2), hamsters (2 6), a rabbit, turtles (2) and a parakeet.

Oh, and some brine shrimp, too

I also had a chicken that was "mine" when I was a very young kid, but it stayed on my great grandparent's farm, and I only saw it a few times a month. I'm pretty sure that my great grandmother fed us that chicken for lunch one Sunday afternoon.

1 cat, 1 cat + 4 kittens that didnt live to be cats. :(
2 dogs Started off as 1 dog, and then it had 10 puppies in one litter. We kept one. Our back yard was heavily mined for a little while there. :P
1 rat. Stupid thing chewed holes in my quilt. The dogs wouldnt eat it, the traitors! :P
2 canaries and 8+ assorted finches all in one big screened-in balcony as a cage.
1 tortoise, briefly. Parents-"it'll be fine living under the garage, it wont wander off." Dorks. :P

Wow... I'm afraid this is going to make me sound insane but here goes:

13 cats
13 dogs
a guinea pig
an iguana
a parrot
a sun conure (Mango was the best until he started attacking people)
numerous fish
2 turtles
3 chickens
a rooster

At my dad's house growing up there was:

a gaggle of geese
a brace of ducks
a flock of seagulls
about 4 or 5 horses
a pig

Out of all of those, most of those belonged to someone else and I just happened to live with them - whether it be parents, ex's, et al. I personally have had 4 cats, 3 of which I still have and 2 dogs which I also still have.

Various bird dogs (Brittney, Setter, etc) and an Aussie. Arctic Wolf/Mally hybrids...dachshund, beagle
Cats
Various iguanas
North Carolina Pigmy Rattlesnake (awesome, but rather mean--caught it on a golf course)
40 or so other snakes (kings, rat, racer, garter, ring, dekays, water, blah blah...)
Oscars and other ciclids (sp)
African gray parrot
Alligator Snapping Turtle
Random freshwater turtles
Soft-shelled turtles
6-lined race-runner
Skinks
Frogs (Colorado Toad Frog, Bullfrogs, tree frogs, etc)
Anoles

It would be cool to have a Gila Monster and a Gaboon Viper. :)

None at all now... can't have pets at my current place... will go dog next...

When I was a kid, my parents had cats, dogs (always small), birds, fish, and hermit crabs.

The fish, crabs, and birds came and went pretty quick though :P Birds are disgusting.

As long as I have been on my own, I have never owned any sort of pet. I'm not a pet guy. I think they are more trouble than they are worth. I have coworkers that are slaves to thier pets. One woman has a puppy and kitten that eat her shoes about once a week and she's always complaining about them. Fuck that.

I have another coworker that would've left her husband years ago, but she cannot bare to leave her horses with him. That same woman cannot ever go on any sort of vacation because it's too expensive to border all thier various animals and they don't have any friends that would take care of them while they are gone. The animals rule their lives. Fuck that too.

Lastly, I know a girl who is stuck living in a shitty rent house and she refuses to move because she cannot find a place that will allow her 2 rotweillers that is anything less than what I would consider poverty level living. Double fuck that.

I just do not want to be tied down by pets, ever. I don't want to pay to feed them nor do I have any desire to take care of them. I don't want animal smells in my house, or hair on my furniture and clothing. I fail to see the point at which the pros outweigh the cons of owning pets.

Having just spewed all that, once my girls are older and if they want a pet, I will likely consider it.

One dog growing up, was a mutt or mutant oversized Dachshund. Got him in Germany. He traveled back and forth from Europe to America twice. Bit 14 people in his career, four of them requiring stitches, (hand x 2, face, leg). Almost got us kicked off base, got us kicked out of hotel rooms. (hotel manager volunteered to feed the dog while we were skiing and ended up with stitches in his finger. (he was warned to slip the food in the door and run for cover)

Dog was likely maced on several occasions by the mail man. Our mail that came through the front door mail slot was shredded by the pooch daily.

Dog had a liver disease which required us to ship special cases of dog food monthly from the U.S. to Sardinia, Italy.

All of that crap and we kept it for 10+ years.

Later in life, had two cats that thankfully left the same time as the EX.

I have nothing against people that want to have pets. They're too much trouble IMO. Fun to visit. Don't want to keep the things for similar reasons to what Fairweather already stated above.

Lot of cats over the years, 3 currently
Misc fish, just one angelfish left
Dog as a kid
Assorted rodents, snakes, turtles, spiders, etc... as a kid

I like pets, enjoy having them around. When the current set croaks I won't be getting any more though.

Jesus, I didn't know animal freaks were so common!

When I was little, I had two English Springer Spaniels. I eventually want another one of them when I have a yard with a fence, and my girlfriend wants a chocolate lab. I'd guess those will probably be the only other pets we ever have. I like cats, but I feel the same way about them as I do about babies (at this point in my life) - they are cool when they are other peoples :)

Growing up we had a cat, my parents got it when they got married. It ran away at some point during my childhood. It was kinda messed up in the head, so I didn't miss it.
After that I had various fishes (freshwater). I liked that a lot. I no longer have my aquarium, but I want to get another one.
My ex gf gave me a hermit crab as a present for either a birthday or xmas after we broke up (/boggle). They don't make great pets imo.
Then was Xou's cat when we lived together in FL. That cat was a constant source of entertainment and hilarity for me. :) (she's still entertaining, but less hilarious)

That was it for me. I'm not a dog person (multiple maulings), but I do really dig cats. I'd like to get one when I grow up.

Pets aren't children, member of the family, "furry little people", etc...

I'm a "barn cat" kind of person, I like having cats around the house. If one croaks, go to the barn (now animal shelter) and get another.

As an adult, have had 3 dogs, 3 cats, currently have 2 of each. And some fish and newts.

Growing up, tons of cats, couple of dogs, and for a while I had a bull as a pet, until it was time for the slaughter for Christmas. Still got the tanned skin from him stored in Norway somewhere....
