I thought this ball didn't have enough momentum to make it into the goal. If someone would've told me that Bayern would win off of an Arjen Robben goal in the 89th minute, I don't know that I would believe them.

I didn't realize so few clubs had pulled off the treble.

They became the seventh team to win their league, cup and European Cup in the same season, following Inter Milan (2010), Barcelona (2009), Manchester United (1999), PSV Eindhoven (1988), Ajax Amsterdam (1972) and Celtic (1967).

that was actually the 2nd goal, and it seemed like the keeper lost it as the US attacker came in with the backpass.

It was a good result for the US, but the German squad was missing a lot of starters. Only one of the players from Dortmund was present, and none from Bayern.

That's why the Bayern players weren't there (Cup was yesterday), and I'm not sure why the rest of the Dortmund players weren't available yet.

Was a fun game to watch. That German side has a ton of stars even without most of their starters so it was surprising how bad they were in the first half especially. They seemed disorganized/disinterested until the 2nd half. USA played very well though and were able to create and convert their chances better than they usually do.

With even just two or three more of their starters though I think Germany could have destroyed us. No Ozil, Lahm, Gotze, Reus, Gomez, Muller, Khedira, Boateng, Hummels, Shweinsteiger, Neuer,...holy shit when you start listing the quality out of Germany these days it's terrifying. Pretty sure there's some kind of Ubermensch program going on in the shadows...

Records FC Bayern did NOT break this season....some were close!

Most goals: The men from Munich racked up an incredible 98 goals on their way to the title, but that tally is still shy of the all-time Bundesliga record. With Gerd Müller spearheading the attack, FC Bayern, class of 1971/72, hit the net no fewer than 101 times all-told.

Best home record: 14 wins, two draws and a single defeat, accumulating a more than respectable 44-point haul. That's still well down on the record 49 points (allowances for the three-point rule included) earned from 16 wins and a draw on home turf by FC Schalke 04 in 1971/72, FC Bayern the following season and VfL Wolfsburg in 2008/09.

Most goals at home: Bayern's 56-goal return at the Allianz Arena also falls some way short of the 69 they managed back that bounteous 1971/72 campaign. The eleven they conceded in Munich, meanwhile was more than double the miserly five leaked by Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion in 1992/93.

Most away goals: The mighty Reds hit the net 42 times on the road, just one fewer than Werder Bremen's top-flight away record of 43 goals in 2006/07.

Consecutive away goals: This is one Bayern could yet break in the first half of next season. As it stands, they have scored at least once in each of their last 19 Bundesliga away games. Between August 1981 and February 1983, Hamburger SV did the same on 27 successive road trips.

Most consecutive victories: Bayern won 14 games on the trot from Matchday 18 through to Matchday 31. That's a new one-season record, but they themselves racked up 15 straight Bundesliga victories in 2005, albeit spread over two seasons.

Most games unbeaten: Again, the men from the Bavarian capital are slowly but surely closing in on a HSV best-mark from the early 1980s, when their northern rivals went 36 games without losing in the top flight. FC Bayern are currently on 25, and counting...

Longest run of clean sheets: This one still belongs to VfB Stuttgart, who went nine games without conceding a goal in 2003.

Best first season-half: Bayern went into the winter break having left points lying in four of their 17 matches (13 wins, three draws, one loss). They themselves, in 2005/06, and Borussia Dortmund in 2010/11 each did slightly better up to the half-way stage of the campaign, with 14 wins apiece.

Most goals from substitutes: Players coming off the bench chipped in with ten of the champions' 98 goals in the season just ended. That's well behind the 17 netted by Werder Bremen's subs in 2006/07.

saw the first half of the Uli Hoeness Cup last night with FC Bayern v FC Barcelona. Definitely some preseason jitters, and it was really odd watching Bayern back in a 4-3-3 lineup. Oddest thing of all was Lahm playing up in the Right Midfielder's role AND scoring off of a header. WTF?! Planning to watch the second half tonight, which should be an entirely different game in the preseason.

From a gamecast of the Champion's League match:
Bayern have had an amazing 29 attempts tonight - with 17 on target. Plzen haven't had one shot off or on target. Amazing at this level.

and then:
Incredible stuff - Kozacik - the Plzen goalkeeper whose side finds themselves 4-0 down- has been booked for TIME WASTING!

Hmmm Donovan left off Team USA so a Bayern player can play on the US team:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2069 ... rojections

Julian Green any good? He made the team but isn't in the projected starting 11.

Donovan probably getting a little old.

He only played for garbage time in one or two games, I think. Most of his time was spent on the reserves. I haven't seen him play, but I had seen some mentions of his budding abilities online.

Here's a ScoutNation video of him. Shows some good dribbling, passing, and shooting. Nice speed as well.

DFL Supercup is coming up, and once again Bayern face Borussia Dortmund. BvB has a 7-2 run going on Bayern, and this game will be played in Dortmund. I'm not expecting many good things with all of the layover from the majority of the starters after the World Cup. I am interested to see how Robert Lewandowski is accepted since he just switched to Bayern from BvB at the end of the last season. The same sort of thing happened last year when Goetze made the same switch, and he then came on to score the first goal against his old club.

Supercup went about the way I expected. Not glad to have Javi Martinez go out with a suspected ACL tear though. It's time to re-up my GolTV subscription as the Bundesliga starts back up on the 22nd! I am hoping the rumors of ESPN getting domestic rights to the Bundesliga starting soon are real.

Just finished a English commentator driven look at a training period at FC Bayern, and it was cool to get a look at the players practicing and interacting with fans throughout the whole video. They really keep things open to the public during the Sabener Strasse practices.

This save right here

How? I believe Manuel Neuer went the first 60 minutes without actually having to save a shot before Dortmund started to go nuts in the Bayern half. Then there was that save with 2-3 minutes left in the game from a Reus free kick just outside the box. How he stopped that shot on the line like he did....wow

USMNT's Julian Green scores for Bayern II, assisted by Ribery's brother
U.S. men's national team's Julian Green scored his first goal of the club season Tuesday, netting for Bayern Munich II in Germany's fourth division against Bayreuth.

According to game reports, Green finished off a pass from Steeven Ribery–the 19-year-old brother of Bayern star Franck Ribery–in the 17th minute to give Bayern II the early lead. It was Green's first goal since a June tally against Qatar in the Toulon Tournament as part of the U.S. Under-23 national team. Ribery scored the eventual winner, while Green went the distance in the 2-1 victory.

Green spent last season on loan at Hamburg, where he was used sparingly and did not score, and he will remain with the Bayern reserves for now, according to first-team manager Pep Guardiola.

Green famously scored for the U.S. in his World Cup debut against Belgium in extra time of the 2014 round of 16.
