That's a piss-poor attitude. My company has decided it's not important for our product to work in anything other than IE, however I think that's bullshit and don't really care what they (and especially not the moron IT people) think
Really? Strange that I'm only doing software QA right now to help them out and I've actually moved to development... Trust me when I say that if my attitude is lacking, it's only because this company is being run into the ground when some simple changes could make a big difference..miir wrote:That's a piss-poor attitude. My company has decided it's not important for our product to work in anything other than IE, however I think that's bullshit and don't really care what they (and especially not the moron IT people) think
It's a major waste of resources to support browsers other than IE.
If it were your own company, you can waste your time and money developing for and supporting any and every fucking browser you want.
Until you change that attitude, you're gonna be stuck in go-nowhere jobs like software QA.
You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about. It's cool, it's far from the first time.cadalano wrote:awesome, funk.. thats called being proactive. do your coworkers send you lots of happygrams? because they should. keep at it and one day you wont be an entry level piece of shit getting paid by the hour
Really. It is.Funkmasterr wrote:It's not a waste of resources for a company to support their product in firefox.
I had a meeting with IT people yesterday and they all agreed that they fucking hate you too.Funkmasterr wrote:I fucking hate IT people..
Thing is, our customer support hours are spent either way, because the company wants them to help the people even if they are using a browser we don't support... And those support people don't know what they are doing so they ask myself or a handful of other people for help. So the times being spent, why not make it official? I know the issues with our product in firefox, and they are actually pretty minor.. Probably 20 hours of a developers time would take care of it.Ashur wrote:Really. Development hours + Test hours + Customer Support hours = Resources
We got the "Hey DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES install this shit" happygram this AM as well.
Did you completely ignore my post? I have a valid point, get over it.miir wrote:Percentage of PCs that have IE installed: 100%

Cost to develop, test and support your application for IE = $X
Cost to develop, test and support your application for IE and other browsers = more than $X
Oh trust me I do, and I have. Myself and many others have had meeting upon meeting with VP's/managers and the CEO to try and explain to them with data, charts, etc, why the way we are doing things isn't working. This company has gone out of business once before and is headed down exactly the same path again, and it's frustrating as hell that no one wants to listen.. All they seem to care about is getting the investors their money back, cause the investors want out, probably because they see what I see.Canelek wrote:WebSense has been around for years. It is there for a reason.
Perhaps instead of yelling at "moronic IT people", you can try not being a douchebag to them and maybe learn way to work around WebSense inconveniences.
If you feel that you are above them, however, by all means continue to pound your fists into your desk with righteous indignation!!11!
Act like a professional, if you want to become one. Take your PMPs and DCSA people out for beer. Try to have respect for others in the workplace. Not everyone though--some people are just too creepy to work with.
You're missing the part where they tell their internal employees we don't support those browsers, but when customers call in using it management requires us to fix their problem. I had to have like 5 meetings with people to get them to stop supporting Windows 98 a year after MS stopped supporting it....miir wrote:You have 100% coverage developing for IE.
Untill the company decides to support other platforms, you're wasting their resources trying to support it.
I don't spend a lot of time on it. I just get familiar with how the product works in the different browsers and the issues that people might see right away so I'm prepared when I get questions about it from support.Aardor wrote:My company is pretty lenient on how you spend your time, but they would be pretty pissed off if one of our QA people starting testing our product in Firefox for no reason. Granted, we do have a team of developers/QA people working on cross browser compatibility (which is technically a different product from our main one, which will continue to be IE only), but given the experience I have had with designing javascript in IE, 70% of the code which works correctly in IE will not work correctly in firefox. When you find bugs in firefox, do you send it to developers to be fixed? and if not, what do you do with the bugs, since I doubt you make any sort of bug report/task because your bosses would see them and be like "why are you wasting your time?"
Yeah, the java/xml/xslt are all server side or browser independent (our product uses the same stuff), so only client side code will (what i meant by javascript, but it could be a number of things) be effected. The biggest issues I have experienced is the way you are allowed to access the DOM in IE vs Firefox/Opera/Safari. It just seems like you're wasting your time, since you can't report the bug (you don't support firefox), and you can't fix the bug (or I imagine your boss wouldn't be too happy when he asked why you changed stable code and your response was to make it work in an unsupported browser).Funkmasterr wrote:I don't spend a lot of time on it. Our product uses - java/xml/xslt - and it actually almost works like normal in firefox. The functionality actually works, it's just mostly navigational and display issues.
Way to completely ignore everything I said and make a comment you have no authority to make. Typical for you though.Zaelath wrote:Well, obviously because he thinks he's smarter than everyone else that has more authority/experience than him; just like any other teenager.
I know.. But until I'm not expected to field questions about a browser we supposedly don't support, I don't really have a choice.Aardor wrote:Yeah, the java/xml/xslt are all server side or browser independent (our product uses the same stuff), so only client side code will (what i meant by javascript, but it could be a number of things) be effected. Guess you could be spending the time browsing the internet instead, though.
we block google toobar and search also, but for some reason way above my paygrade they allow google.earth /shrug.. guess some admiral likes to look at his house in the hamptons..miir wrote:We block all downloads from google.
Too many problems with google toolbar and desktop search... google earth is right fucking nasty on the network.

I think we do.Funkmasterr wrote:I went off on the nazi IT manager here yesterday because they have the install for Google Chrome blocked.

(it makes me throw up a little too)

So true, lol. However, better to typically ignore a retard than be one, imo.Funkmasterr wrote:Way to completely ignore everything I said and make a comment you have no authority to make. It probably represents the closest thing the enemy has to satellite coverage, so it's nice to know how much they know.Carnon-Veeshan wrote:we block google toobar and search also, but for some reason way above my paygrade they allow google.earth /shrug.. guess some admiral likes to look at his house in the hamptons..

Since failing at quitting this place the last (third?) time, you've stated multiple times that the only reason you come here is to piss off/annoy all of us and ruin this place so noone wants to come here anymore.Funkmasterr wrote:LOL YEAH IM SURE A HYPOCRITE!!1Truant wrote:Funkmasterr wrote:It's so cute watching pathetic people like you getting your kicks out of annoying someone, it is a constant reminder of how much better than you I am.IN THE SAME THREAD!Funkmasterr wrote:Wow, it's been a while. The difference is I'd rather not deal with the constant shit slinging, name calling, etc - I get zero enjoyment out of it... But if you guys are going to make it a point to piss me off at every step, I might as well return the favor.
What an amazingly ignorant statement.Funkmasterr wrote:That's nazi bs.miir wrote:youtube is blocked here.

What don't you get dude? You guys wanna wreck my fun and spout off everytime I post, I'm going to strike back. What I don't understand is how someone's life is so pathetic that they get their kicks out of getting a rise out of someone, I've never gotten a answer from anyone here to that question.Truant wrote:Since failing at quitting this place the last (third?) time, you've stated multiple times that the only reason you come here is to piss off/annoy all of us and ruin this place so noone wants to come here anymore.Funkmasterr wrote:LOL YEAH IM SURE A HYPOCRITE!!1Truant wrote:Funkmasterr wrote:It's so cute watching pathetic people like you getting your kicks out of annoying someone, it is a constant reminder of how much better than you I am.IN THE SAME THREAD!Funkmasterr wrote:Wow, it's been a while.
