I'd like to congratulate Michigan on a hard fought effort at home vs west coast powerhouse Utah! If the new coach can still convince recruits to come to Michigan, he may have a competitive team in two years.
Bring Michael Phelps along for a few of the visits to potential players.
USC's looking solid
OhioSU has their excuse all set to go with the ankle injury to their RB
ASU plays later tonight!

Michigan wouldn't have even been in that game if Utah hadn't generously given them the ball inside the 35 for each of their 3 touchdowns.

It's early, and at the risk of jinxing my beloved Huskers, I've got to say I'm pretty stoked about the beginning of the Pelini era. It's "only" Western Michigan, but the defense seems to be much improved, and the offense seems like they're picking up where they left off last year. The running game is not as strong as I expected, yet, and they seem to have some rust to knock off. WMU's touchdown drive was kept alive by several costly 15 yard penalties. Overall I'm pleased so far. NU 34-10 at halftime.

Went to the UGA game today. They did well, but not quite as crisp as a #1 team should be, especially against my beloved Georgia Southern Eagles. If they get that worked out quickly, they should be able to make a run for the National Championship. Their schedule is brutal however.

NU's defense sounds better, but they still have a lot of room for improvement. It will take a while to fix what was so horribly broken by the previous coaching staff.

WOW, amazing game.
Nice win UCLA. That had to hurt Tennessee, losing to a projected 4-8 team.
I don't want to get too excited about this season yet. They are reed thin at every position, but with all the young players getting playing time this year, this could become a good team in a year or two.

I've never really cared for UCLA all that much, but I've always been a Neuheisel fan (even when he was at CU), so I was pulling for them tonight. I was really surprised that Tennessee didn't pull away from them during the first half with all the interceptions and injuries sustained by UCLA, but they really did a great job of adjusting and turning it around in the second half. It was great to see UCLA get a nice win, especially over my least favorite SEC team.

Sorry for my late arrival to the thread. I wasn't trying to ignore you guys.
Winnow wrote:I'd like to congratulate Michigan on a hard fought effort at home vs west coast powerhouse Utah! If the new coach can still convince recruits to come to Michigan, he may have a competitive team in two years.
Eh, Utah's one of the strongest schools from a non-BCS conference. They beat USC in Pete Carroll's first year, were the first non-BCS to win a BCS bowl, have the highest bowl game winning % of any team with over 10 bowls, and have won their last 7 bowl games in a row... I guess I'm just trying to say that they have a much more impressive resume than Arizona State (well, any
men's team in any sport in Arizona) this millennium.
Xatrei wrote:Michigan wouldn't have even been in that game if Utah hadn't generously given them the ball inside the 35 for each of their 3 touchdowns.
I disagree. Michigan wouldn't have been in that game if it weren't for some good halftime adjustments and the defense stepping up to play to its potential in the second half.
I haven't been in the sports forum talking much shit this preseason, because Michigan isn't going to be as good as they usually are. That's expected. We've got regime change at coach and 1 returning starter on offense. Hell, 6 true freshman and 6 redshirt freshmen saw playing time on Saturday, and a walk-on QB started. I'm not sure about everyone else's school, but any one of those things is unheard of at Michigan, let alone all three.
The good news is that we're going to get better, the bad news is that it might take a pretty rough season to get there. I'm just glad I recognized this ahead of time so even a really bad year isn't going to bring me down.

Congrats to OhioSU squeaking by Ohio this week. Good luck @ USC next week!
What's with the Big Ten (11) barely beating these scrub opponents? You can't pick any worse teams to play. Next year the conference should step up to playing the level just above scrub teams so they have something to fall back on the next year. (Arizona State plays Georgia next week...seems like a worthy out of conference opponent to me!)
After seeing OhioSu's performance this week, lets see some score predictions:
OhioSU 12
USC 38
BTW, who gives a fuck if that Beanie guy is injuered? USC goes five RBs deep. Seven different USC players scored TDs last week. They don't count on a single player. If OhioSU can't play ball with one player going down, they're in big trouble and overrated as they are every year.

So why do you say you like ASU so much when the only accomplishment you ever throw out there is how great USC is?
Either say you are really a USC fan and be done with it, or stop swinging from USCs nuts.
Don't get me wrong OSU played like complete crap today, and honestly I doubt it was all Beanie being out that caused that. However to say one player being out shouldn't make a difference is the normal asinine bullshit you always spew.
To say missing a Heisman trophy candidate shouldn't matter is stupid.
"Errr sorry you lost Tim Tebow Florida, but you have another QB. You should play the same."

You can avoid it but I'll make my point again. USC could lose three RBs and still stomp OhioSU. They could lose their QB and still stomp OhioSU. Pretty weak if a team has to count on a single player. The true top teams have depth. USC's seven TDs from seven different players displays that.
USC is the best team in the Pac Ten. I can admit that and still be an Arizona State fan. I'm still unsure about the quality of ASU this year. I'll have a better idea after the game tonight vs Stanford.

Money where your mouth is. If Ohio State beats USC will you shut the fuck up about them and the Big 10 for the rest of the season? If they win I promise I won't mention USC or the Pac 10 the rest of the season, or is being annoying more important than being right to you?

I'll take that bet!
I'll be glad to see OhioSU out of the National Title picture after next Saturday. Their weak performance today combined with a USC blowout should be enough even if they cruise through the Big Ten again.

A rough start to the day by the Pac Ten. #23 California falls to unranked Maryland. Stanford gets blown out by TCU (not a surprise, but still). Oregon trails Purdue 20-3 in the first half. UCLA trails Brigham Young 28-0 in the first half. Plenty of time to turn those games around, and there's still the minor affair of tonight's contest. Still, there's a possibility of a total Pac 10 humiliation today if these scores hold up and OSU can pull off an upset.

Oregon pulls it out and Oregon State takes down Hawaii. UCLA gets blown out by BYU 59-0 and Washington is on their way to getting blown out by Oklahoma (not a surprise). Not a good day for the Pac 10, but won't be horrible unless OSU wins.

OSU played like they didn't even deserve to be on that field yesterday.
Gameplan was awful, execution was awful. The switching QBs and RBs every fucking play was retarded.
The way the played I am not even confident they can win the woeful Big Ten. Wisconsin and Penn St both look like they could put an ass whooping to OSU.
But it's better than loosing to the Running Rebs.

Who the hell are the Buckeyes sucking off to fall to only #13?
Many of the teams ahead of them will be playing and knocking each other off, and all that is left on the OSU schedule now is Penn State and maybe the Illini.
They better not even sniff a shot at the title game, we have seen enough boring title games with them in it.

I realize the game wasn't even competitive, so perhaps this isn't the best place to make the argument, but how far should a team who plays and loses to the #1 team in the nation fall? Shouldn't, by definition, the #1 ranked team beat everyone that they play? Not to mention that the Buckeyes were missing their Heisman-candidate running back for the game.

USC did not just beat them, they toyed with them. The score was not even a true indication of how bad it was. I would have brought them down to between 20-25.
This is why preseason rankings suck. If they did not rank them until week 4 do you think they would be sitting at 13 based on their win against Youngstown (congrats??) a so-so win against Ohio (which was closer then the score indicates) and then were just dominated in their loss against the only quality opponent they have played.

I am not saying anything negative about USC to take exception with that comment. They had to work for that score and Ohio State had a TD that got pulled back due to a penalty. USC played
extremely well and by their own admission would have liked to have run up the score into the 100s. They weren't able to, but they were CLEARLY the superior team.
They couldn't even get it up to, say, 59.

If you had a touchdown pulled back because of a penalty then you did not have a touchdown. That would be the same as me saying USC had a touchdown wiped out by an interception. It was clear they pulled back early and they completely dominated them. As I said, 35-3 does not show the true nature of that asskicking. Trust me, it is difficult to say nice things about the Trojans, but they destroyed OSU and they showed they are not a top 15 team by any stretch. Your ranking is based on a bunch of OSU fanbois giving you a high ranking to start the year. You might be top 25, but I can't tell yet since the only significant game you played was a Pac-10 team whose conference is a combined 0-5 against the Mountain West.
Now you can go back to your conference, which is better then the Pac-10 this year, but that is not saying it is a great conference. Win one or two real conference games then coast past the scrubs and collect another unwarranted BCS bowl blowout loss.
I was waiting for the Beanie was hurt excuses, especially since someone on here claimed USC would use that excuse when their quarterback got hurt, but to the VV OSU fans credit, I have not seen that card played.

Tyek,
Again, I'm not saying that USC didn't totally dominate Ohio State, THEY DID.
But they sure weren't "toying" with them either. They wanted to deliver OSU as a curb-stomped invalid and the Buckeyes managed to limp away with some broken bones. Beaten, yes, humiliated, sure, I'll even give you that... but not by as much as they would have done to a lesser team. They were not able to run up the score like they wanted to do.
To quote Sylvus, because I have much respect for the wisdom of the man from A2.
Again, if the score were, say, 59 to 0, I'd heartily concur with your points. I look forward to watching the Trojan's game this weekend. I'll be rooting for them.

USC is rolling.
Grats on OhioSU pulling out a win over...Troy? Timewarp?
Pac Ten has the #1 team in the nation...Big Ten (11) has....?
Michigan can't even beat Notre Dame anymore and OhioSU FINALLY is getting shit on like it deserves by the press. They shouldn't have been anywhere near the BCS last year and finally this year they won't be no matter how bad they beat the rest of the crap Big Ten. They're not even blowing out their typical powder puff non conference teams (besides their game against USC in which they got blown out themselves).
Hard to say which conference is worse (Big Ten (11) or Pac Ten, but the Pac Ten has the #1 team in the nation so I guess we're OK.
Bottom Line: Down year overall for both Big Ten and Pac Ten but the Pac 10 still has USC and #1.

I love how Winnow talks so much shit about how great the Pac 10 is when his darling Sun Devils got beat by UNLV who hasn't won a road game before that in like 12 attempts.
Hint for ya here Winnow:
USC = Great Team != ASU = Great Team
You enjoy that Sun Bowl bid if you manage to somehow finish even 3rd in the Pac 10.
