Most annoying things people say

There are phrases that really grind my gears...

"You don't even know" (How the fuck do you know?)

"You're not going to believe this" (Really shithead? I probably will, considering the source)

"Can you do me a big favor?" (If you fucking ask for my agreement before telling me what you want me to do, the answer is NO)

how about you?

People still say that? I think you should be bitch slapped promptly after using this.

I can't think of anything right now which is odd, cause I know I bitch about the stupid shit people say fairly often.. I'll get back to ya.

Yes, people who actually say the letters rather than just the words. It makes me want to punch them with an English dictionary.

Seconded. Actually it makes me want to punch someone whenever they actually verbalize acronyms like that.. lol, wtf..

"Corporate" words bug the fuck out of me too. We actually have a list of them up in our area that you can't use without getting shot with a nerf gun. The list consists of words like: Ping, productivity, spearhead, ASAP, proactive, amongst many others.

"Going forward"

People at work say this all the time like: "going forward, we will have to take that factor into account on the page." I do not know why is bothers me so much, but I want to punch whoever says it in the ear.

I see nothing wrong with "ping" and "ASAP"...

"ASAP"... like, that phrase has been in use since, um, forever. Only use it when you need something ASAP. ;)

"ping" is a nerdy Internet thing that got picked up in Corporate culture by people that have no idea of it's origins, but we're taking it back!

Note that I'm a technical project manager, so I probably have a higher tolerance for many buzzwords that make people's skin crawl. I also used to be in the military, so I also have a huge list of acronyms in my vocabulary.

Things people say that bother me:

"revert" instead of "reply", many Indian folks we have here seem to have a grave misunderstanding about what this word means and it's caused massive f-ups.

"verbage" instead of "verbiage". Nuff said

"irregardless" I'm w/ Sylvus on this one.

"What are you doing/up to?" (on the phone) "Um, I'm talking to you on the phone, what did you need?"

"red state" "blue state" Go die in a fire.

When people state the obvious.
Ex: you walk into a room carrying a McDonald's bag, "Oh did you go to McDonalds?"
No, I just use this instead of a purse.

I know it's just a conversation starter, but it annoys me.

"Irregardless"

"Fixing to [do something]" In my experience, this one is mostly a Southern thing.

"Alls I need / Alls I gotta do..." This one infuriates me.

"All intensive purposes" or any other variation of the actual phrase.

Ashur, as for "what are you up to?", I don't see the problem really. Obviously, you're on the phone. Is it necessary for the person to ask "So what were you up to / doing before you picked up the phone?" I know I've used "What's going on?" sometimes. Would you rather they just didn't ask at all?

Ah, well, around here that usually involves shit like "All I needs is / All I gotsta do" instead. I should probably just say that ebonics in general is annoying to me.

This reminds me of when I worked in a grocery store during high school. I had this shirt that clearly let anyone know I was an employee of Food Lion, and I'd frequently get questioned: "Do you work here?"

No, I'm just a fan.

I'm going to go with "Yes, I'd prefer they not ask what I'm doing when 99.99% of the time it's irrelevant to what they want to talk about."

I think it's just the specific targeted aspect of it the question, as if what I'm doing at that very moment is relevant. I don't have a problem with the more inclusive "what's going on?" or "what's up?", I just find "What are you doing/Where are you?" to be a bit invasive as an invitation to chat or as a precursor to a completely unrelated question."

My wife will call me at work and ask me what I'm doing. My reply is "I'm working". Most women I've ever known are like this. They can't just call up, say "Hi" and why they called. Maybe it's a woman thing.

I find this pretty funny because I'm often criticized for being very cold, borderline rude on the phone because I don't typically ask questions like "What are you doing" "Whats going on" "How are you" etc. I typically have a reason for calling somebody and just say whatever it is I needed to know/say and then a simple, ok thanks -- bye or whatever the situation calls for.

I find a simple "what are you wearing?" works much better than "what are you up to" or "what's going on". Provided you were going for creepy, which I usually am.

Sometimes I wonder if I am a gay man stuck in a woman's body :D

I never call anyone unless (1) I got something to say, in which case I get right to it or (2) I'm drunk dialing - in which case I have LOTS to say anyways.

I have tons of things that people say that make me cringe. Mostly it's how people pronounce things. I hate it when people pronounce the word "human" or "huge" without the H. (because there's a fucking H in it)

The only people I have heard pronounce those words that way would be peoples from the carribbaen (I'm sure I spelled that incorrectly) ... and that is just how they talk, it's not incorrect :)

Some corporate shit bugs me, but only due to the fact that I work with retards.

Internet shit does not phase me. Hit me with 'lol' ("LOLE") whenever, it is all goodtimes.

Now, what does indeed bug me:

When discussing sports, a person will refer to their favorite team in the ownership/membership perspective.... "Yeah, as soon as we sign Griffey to a 3-year deal, we should really be rocking! We look really great on paper, but we will see how things play out....it is only spring though. Our team looks great!!11!"

"I can't believe we took Reggie Bush in the draft!"

"I can't believe we took Reggie Bush in the draft!"
When talking about your sports teams:

1st person: when we're winning!
3rd person: when they're losing!

People talking about their teams in the first person doesn't bother me too much.

I am bothered when someone says "you know" after every sentence.

It bothers me when people end their sentences with the same phrase, you know? It doesn't matter what they say, you know what I mean? If it's always the same thing, it bothers me, and things. I wish they would just end the sentence sooner, and everything. It would just make my day, and shit.

Oddly enough, I live in a city with what's probably one of the highest concentrations of people from the Caribbean and I haven't noticed that at all. It seems to be a white American thing in these parts.

The mispronounciation of the word Caribbean is another one that sets me off. Why is it that nearly everyone can pronounce it properly when referring to the pirates of but some insist on killing it otherwise?

Oh and I'm totally with Eddie Izzard on the word "herb".

edit:

oh oh oh and when people try to sound all educated and cultured by pronouncing foreign cities in the city's native tongue.

I don't think it has anything to do with trying to sound educated or cultured, but it IS the native language. Just like I would never refer to Cologne as such, as the city name is Köln. Actually, isn't it the opposite of your gripe about pronouncing Caribbean "wrong?"

I can't fault someone for calling a city by its, uh, actual name. In terms of nomenclature, the fact that we tend to change names up for our own language is what bothers me.

 never been a fan of "hella" either. There was also a stretch of time where people around here said dag (pronounced: Day-G) instead of dog/dogg/dawg, for example "whats up dag". Every time someone said it I kinda thought about killing them with a spoon.

This made me think of something else...

Paris Hilton makes me want to punch her in the face every time I hear "that's hot". Side note would also be that the increasing amounts of girls I see walking around that look like replicas of Paris or girls from shows like "the hills", etc all make me fucking sick. I find myself wishing that GTA was real life so I could just mow the mindless bitches down and spare the world of another stupid whore.

Uh. No it isn't. The reality is you're too lazy to do any sort of investigation or fact checking.

I admit I throw around "irregardless" on purpose even though I know it's not the grammatically preferred terminology. However, while the preference is to use regardless, irregardless is a valid word so those people who get their undies in a bunch about people using it are a bit irrational.

I mostly agree with you, but I would argue that for a lot of people, (their) perception of things is reality. Now I won't argue that this makes them lazy or shallow, etc because I totally agree.

I have been thinking since about this since my last post in this thread, and I have decided that people who care about being trendy are just obnoxious period, they don't even have to talk most of the time.

Irregardless is only becoming valid because people are too stupid not to use it. When a word is wrong, and is used enough, it becomes right. The lexicon being a living thing and such.

It makes no sense as a word. The "Ir" prefix implies negation. Irrational means not rational. Irrespective means not respective. Irregardless should mean not regardless or regard...ful?

Stop using it!
