If you wanted to spend around $1500 on a laptop, what would you get?

Mostly for school, but video and music editing would be done on it.

I'm thinking Mac will probably be the best choice, but I'm kind of retarded in that area of technology.

I noticed this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MB4 ... 0013FNZ1M/

On paper it looks like it will do everything I want it to do.

Sounds like that one would do you just fine.

The screen is too small... don't cripple yourself with a 13.3" screen. You can probably get a 17" PC Laptop still within your budget.

If you're retarded, then Mac is definately your best choice.

Think about how much you'll be carrying it around before you pick a size. My 12" powerbook was the perfect size. Of course, if I were taller and stronger and had a bag that a larger laptop would fit in, then I probably wouldn't mind a larger laptop.

If you buy directly through Apple, you get can get the education discount, but I believe that price on Amazon is a good one... plus no sales tax!

I LOL'ed. I fixed someone's slow internet on a mac the other day cause they were running Firefox from the installer file was was mounted on the desktop.

If you are serious about getting a Mac, I would buy this and get some additional ram from a 3rd party(Apple upgrades on RAM are retardedly expensive). Also, get a monitor/keyboard/mouse to hook up to it while you're at home (sadly, Apple doesn't get the concept of a docking station for anything other than iPods).

Memory/HDD upgrade for Macs
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

For an extra 200$, you can get 4GB of RAM and 250GB HDD for your MacBook(that's 200$ less than Apple's Online Store Retail) for a better system than what they offer.

If you're in school and you're considering a mac, make sure to buy it through the Apple On Campus store, you'll get 10-12% discount instead of the standard 5-7% education discount.

I'm nearly certain I'll be getting the Mac Book from Amazon that I linked above. (no tax is cheaper than a student discount)

I am interested in Animalor's idea, but the Apple Store link is broken.

Don't worry about that one. It's essentially the same link as the one you posted from Amazon.

The RAM and HDD upgrades from MacSales is the important one(or you can use just about any online retailer you like)...

That's what I figured.

Gas is expensive, though. I think I'll order through Amazon.

Apple on Campus is a webstore that is specific to your institution. It gives higher discounts than any other Apple retailer.

Let's be honest here.

You're just lazy. :)

If you're university bookstore has an online storefront (I don't know of any that don't), you can do it through that. That way you don't have to...you know...leave your house and interact with humans.
