I think it's the exact same map. Both were created in 2006.

I refuse to believe Argentinians are as happy as that map implies. Have you ever met an Argentinian?

Are you? Looks to me like France is less happy than Spain, England, Ireland, all of Scandinavia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, America, Canada... basically the majority of peer nations.

To the extent that this map is worth anything.

I think he might have been making a joke, since the French flag is often referred to "colours" or "tricolours".

France is the shade of orange that is above average.

Sure. And France, by most objective measures, is well above average in those things which are commonly thought to determine quality of life... income, culture, leisure time, peace, etc. So you would expect that, by subjective measures, which this map measures, they would also be well above average. Instead, France is subjectively less happy than those nations which score similarly on objective measures. Thus the question as to why France is so unhappy.

I know you understand this without my explaining it. You're way too smart to be doing anything other than being deliberately obtuse here.

France has more than it's fair share sociopolitical and racial tensions in the past few years.
That they are slightly less happy than the surrounding nations is understandable.

To say that they are unhappy when they are actually above average is a bit of a misinterpretation.

That they are slightly less happy than the surrounding nations is understandable.
And that is a reasonable response to the question "what the fuck are the French so unhappy about," and the statement implicitly acknowledges that the French are indeed less happy than would be expected absent such an explanation.

And the most notable manifestations of trouble in France, the recent riots, didn't occur until after this map was produced. It's also not like other Western European nations are completely devoid of all sociopolitical, racial, and violence issues...
To say that they are unhappy when they are actually above average is a bit of a misinterpretation.
I'm so glad that we went through this oh-so-valuable exercise in parsing semantics instead of just understanding that the obvious implication is that France is relatively unhappy
