You want fries with that?

OAK BROOK, Ill. (Reuters) - McDonald's Corp. MCD.N on Thursday reported its first quarterly loss ever after booking huge charges to shut down hundreds of weak performing restaurants overseas and said expectations of double-digit profit growth are unrealistic.

McDonald's allowed their reputation as halfway-decent fast food spiral down the drain over the last 10 years. I won't set foot inside a McDonald's now and just the thought of having to eat anything there makes me want to gag.

The fact that people take their kids there should be considered child endangerment, IMHO.

The only reason I go to McD's is for their soft serve. They come in handy when I don't wanna drive all the way out to DQ.

McD's P/E is fairly decent around 12.00, but their dividend is too high. They need to slash their dividend in half and invest the remaining back into the company. The Beta is low as well, which is good. They were caught up in "build as many as possible" and it is backfiring. I'm sure when the economy turns around, and they do some internal revamping, people will get as fat as ever from Big Macs and the like~

McDonald's is being beaten at the game it practically invented by such chains as Taco Bell. Taco Bell and its imitators can sell twice as much food as McD's at nearly 1/5th the cost, and at better quality. And then there are the "mid-range" chains, like Baja Fresh (now owned by Wendy's), that are offering very high quality food at McDonald's-style prices. Meanwhile, McD's has not changed its quality or pricing plans. People are starting to catch on.

McDonald's was transformed from a struggling chain into a worldwide super-giant through the business genius of Ray Krock. His death several years ago has rocked the company's management, and the McDonald's Corporation has never fully recovered. Back in the day, McD's was a company that always weathered recessions and never posted a quarterly loss. It was invincible. I guess that's no longer the case.

Why do you post shit we already know? Didn't you see Demolition Man? We already know Taco Bell will win the food war and be the only restaurant in the future.

Just how they "cook" things now should be an indication. Even though the burgers were fried, at least they were fried then used. Now they put them in some heating contraption with nearly a hundred others. The whole thing looks sickening. I've got no beef with their fudge sundaes though. Small and simple.

You've got no beef with their sundaes and they've got no beef with their hamburgers. HA

Yeah In & Out is a California thing.. and I think maybe they are spreading out a bit. I wish there was one up here.

They're really popular in southern cally.. the fucking lineups are huge all day long and the food is awesome. They also invest in their employees so the service isn't just some high school dropout with his finger in his ear trying to short change you.

There's an In & Out near the strip in Vegas. I'd highly recommend hitting it for lunch while you're there.

A double double double! Is that six?

If you ask, they will make a 4X4 - Four pieces of meat, four pieces of cheese, buns, etc. Imagine the cloggage!

In 'N Out rocks. It's certainly one of the best fast food chains out there. As far as I know, they now have franchises in Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, and (possibly) Colorado. For some reason, I don't think they've expanded north into the Bay Area or Fresno territory.

In 'n Out is privately owned, there are no franchises.

Yeah, that's right...and by some weird Mormons, too. :) That's why all the bottoms of fry containers and soft drink cups have Biblical proverbs on them. Usually it's John 3:16, but I've seen others.

Confirmed In 'N Out in San Francisco as of late November. It can be found down by the fishermans wharf area--kinda near Ghiradelli square or whatever that thing is.

Further proof that the end is near:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of Nortel Networks Corp. rose in trading before the bell on Friday after the supplier of telecommunications gear said it would return to profit in the second quarter after three years of losses.

Be afraid, be very afraid.
