I know, its lame...I am a nerd, redneck, geek, fascist ect

But I like to do it, anyone else? I am looking for someone who knows more then I do about the 'better' AEG's. Upgrades, fixing and what not. I am also looking for people to chat about it. I can work on my weapon some, but I am a novice. Perhaps you are to? or just want to know about airsoft.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Is it an air gun or something? Or is your "weapon" a euphemism for something else?

I had no idea what airsoft was, either!
Airsoft is a combat sport similar to Paintball in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting them with (6 mm or occasionally 8 mm) plastic BBs (small, spherical balls) launched from airsoft guns, that can be powered by CO2, Green Gas, spring, or electrically powered gearboxes actuating a piston. Participants typically use varying types of weapons designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by military and police organizations. In North America and Europe, there is a growing interest in airsoft.

Yes, airsoft is kind of like paintball, except you shoot ceramic BB's instead of paintballs. Decent FPS's on airsoft range from 350 - 450. You can definately get em shooting harder/faster then that but it really really hurts. The weapons are very good replicas of real firearms, in fact there are some that are used for training. My AK-74 would be difficult to determine it is not real, even after picking it up as it is all wood/metal. It shoots hard and can shred an aluminum can in seconds. My AK currently shoots at 390 FPS (feet per second) and about 20 BB's a second. My MP-5 is around 360 FPS but closer to 30 BB's a second. You can get all sorts of guns from sniper rifles, to pistols, shotguns, SMG's, assualt rifles.....

The field we play on determines the camo I wear. We have some really great places to run around and wage war from forest areas to a closed mine (no mine shaft or anything but a lot of buildings that form an L shaped block, the buildings are 1-2 stories and there are 11 of em with some dead equipment/cars trucks about). A few fields are valleys with juniper bushes that are 5-10 feet tall and 3-4 feet apart.

There are probably 45 or so people I have played with in the area, but usually 10-25 show up at once. We play teams, capture the flag, assualt/defend, various scenarios reguarding hostages or what ever we can think of really. Like I said, its geeky but I really like playing and I get a ton of hiking, runing, crouching done like when I was a kid.

Instead of a meeting next Friday, my group at work is going to go play paintball.

Airsoft looks cool. I think that's popular in Japan. Wasn't there a scene in Lost in Translation where they're being chased by guys with Airsoft guns?

I hope those little BB's are biodegradable!

How are you doing this with your knee messed up? I'm going to recommend to your doctor that you don't get the medical marijuana because you can still run around and play Airsoft games!

Some of us use Biodegradable BB's, some dont. I think Tyek has the knee problem, r and y are pretty close so I understand! I do drink a lot on occassion so maybe I messed it up on bowling league and just dont know it yet :)

Are there any restrictions on using these? Some 8 year old kids down the street are always shooting them in their front yard.

That varies I think depending on where you live. There are cheap ones that you buy at stores like Walmart that dont do much, ones like mine can damage property if shot at close. Personally I dont think 8 year olds should be shooting BB's at each other, or pets ect. There is a huge push in California to ban them all together because they look real and police could shoot you dead if you are stupid enough to wave your airsoft around at them or the public, banning things do to public stupidity is a different topic for me tho. There are some fields we play at that we do notify the local department that we are there because they are within city limits.

oh, there are limits to the FPS for tournys for safety and to keep it from getting out of hand.

Owning a fake assault rifle that looks almost exactly like the real thing just ups your chances of being shot by a real bullet. It's a get out of responsibility free card for cops. You have one of those, and the cop will never get int trouble for firing.

In Arizona, people can carry real concealed weapons (after obtaining a permit). It doesn't even have to be a cop that mistakes the gun for real.

It's open season on play guns!

I think all paintball, pellet, etc guns should be distinctly different than the real thing. They should all look like this:

What ever Winnow, if your dumb enough to waive a gun around in public you should be shot. I have whats called a C A S E for my 'toy' gun and I also have them for my real firearms. If I paint my real firearm bright colors and glue some stupid shit on them it does not make them less lethal. Taking my firearms away weather they are real or not does not make society safe, and placing blame of accidents on police is just stupid. Take responsibility for yourself and your children and you wont be shot.

Personally I think if your overwieght and try to contribute to every thread you should have your computer taken away and replaced with an excersize bike

Yeah, plus, if you took his post seriously, you should only be allowed to fire rubber bullets.

I am not sure who 'his post' is supposed to be, but if your refering to Winnow I wasnt addressing him at that point. I was making a random coment that has nothing to do with this thread since it is no longer about anything I was wanting to discuss with someone who might have similar interest.

Rubber bullets actually hurt and can potentially kill if used improperly, thanks for playing

What if he has one of them excersize bike hooked up to a generator that powers his computer? is it still ok for him to use teh interweb?

Anyways, to contribute to your thread, yeah I used to do it, gotten a bit busy. I prefer it over paintball any day. It's cheaper and you can actually hit what you aim at, even with a pistol. The variety and addons for guns is really nice, plus they are realistic. The group I use to go out with had access to some large wooded land and was all setup. It was lots of fun.

I like it over paintball as well. As you mentioned it is much cheaper to play and it doesnt leave a mess. After 1-2 games of paintball, your not to hard to see anymore.....well I guess thats not true, the area is decorated in different paint splotches as well. Some of those pistols are pretty impressive for a sidearm, but im not to sold on the green gas most of them run on. You need to keep that stuff warm or it doesnt work well.

The flu diet got back down to 190 at 6'2".

According to some random page I just pulled up, the ideal weight for my height;

6' 2" 147-194

I'm in range!

and if you can believe something coming out of Wisconsin:

Image

I'm exactly the ideal weight. That said, I'm the most out of shape I've ever been.

Also, Steve Nash (178) is underweight by 18 pounds according to the sausage eaters in Wisconsin...probably not a good idea to get your weight recommendation statistics from the Midwest.

---

Back on topic, bottle rocket wars would be much more fun than these bb/paintball games. You can't mistake a bottle rocket for a RPG.

Trek,
It sounds like a lot of fun. I used to paintball quite a lot. But the cost, combined with the horrible balance & accuracy of the guns bugged me until i finally gave it up.
Unfortunately I cannot help with your request, but thanks for bringing it up, because now I'm interested. :)

With airsoft a good gun will cost you ~500 with upgrades that make it shoot more accurately, faster and harder. Most will shoot just fine stock for around 300. Ammo is insane, I get high grade BB's @ $25 for 25K of em. The main thing with Airsoft (and paintball too..) is to have a reliable group that does it. I think paintball hits a little harder overall just based on the size of the projectile, but thats just my guess.

Paintball versus airsoft BB, I would say Paintball probably hurts more, but with airsoft, automatic guns is the difference since it's not just 1 airsoft BB hitting you, you'll most likely be sprayed with BBs. If I shoot a single round, I usually aim for the head. They will definitely notice it and call out. But that's where the fun in airsoft is so much more than paintball, the fact that I can even run around with a handgun, aim at some guy's head and actually hit him. Good luck doing that with paintball if your not like 5 feet away.

Not sure what you guys use for paintball guns/paint down there in Columbia, but I can tell you that a correctly setup gun with a barrel that is matched to paint size is easily able to hit a head reliably at well over 100 feet. With good paint I can routinely hit the tip of someone's barrel at 25-30 feet.

lol, man - I remember being NAILED right in the chin with a paintball in the WINTER the day before my Army branching photos. Even through a mask it broke all the blood vessels on my skin causing a perfect circle that just oozed blood.

Right after I got nailed I dropped my weapon and grabbed my mask. My friend yells "HEAD SHOTS DON'T COUNT!" and shoots me AGAIN in the chest.

Bastard...

I have been absolutely terrified of paintball since a few people were playing when I was in high school. It was winterish (don't remember the exact date, but there wasn't snow, it was just cold), and one person popped out from behind a tree and shot at another person. Well, he hit the other person, but in the balls, and the paintball did not break. One of his testicles ruptured and had to be removed.

I had a friendly paintball match once in Arkansas. This big fat guy (at least 400 bills) was on my team. We had him play defense and guard the flag. He was actually pretty good at that position. He would just hide behind a fortification or lie flat(ish) on the ground and peg people as they ran in. Keep in mind it was anything but hardcore players. Anyway, I saw him get shot in the ear, and he actually started crying. Later, he was changing his shirt, and I saw he was fucking covered in welts. He must've been shot close to 50 times.

Not wearing proper protection = stupid. Like anything else in life, you need to be smart enough to survive and carry on. Paintball is a pretty safe sport...as is airsoft...as long as people follow some pretty simple rules. It usually suprises me at who the biggest pussies are when you get them out to play. I watched a pro hockey team down here whine and cry like babies playing....and then you get 15 year old scrawny kids who take 3 in the neck at 5 feet and walk off bleeding without even flinching.

Paintball was like the most fun I've ever had. Period. Better than sex.

I loved it so much. I spent 1k on a new gun and all kinds of gear. Havent been since. /sigh

Airsoft, The guns are AMAZING!

One of my high school budies, a SDPD officer, bought an m16, took it to work to show too all his work budies, their jaws hit the floor when he showed them the selecta-fire, then he proceeded to spray a squad car and got a good chuckle.

I held this rifle, and could not tell from it's exterior that it was airsoft (without reading it). The majority of the parts, were in fact direct carry over parts from any ar-15.

Thats airsoft!

Had my eyes checked today and had a slight modification in the left eye prescription! That should take care of the whole Tyek/Trek thing although Sylvus/Sylvos would probably require surgery to prevent mistakes. (both eyes are -1.0 now for those keeping track!)

BTW, you can wear contacts much longer than the "recommended" time on the box. For example, my particular contacts are 30 day wear. The exact same contact is approved for 1 year in Europe. I left my last pair of contacts in for 14-16 months. My eyes are perfectly healthy according to the eye lady that checked them. Two years ago, I had left the same contacts in for six months and the optometrist found nothing wrong. Point being, there's no need to buy a "years supply". Buy half of that and you'll be fine. Just take them out and clean them every couple weeks or so (let them sit in solution overnight) and keep a big bottle of solution handy to squirt in your eyes if they're dry or something gets in them.

Also, don't do the stupid eye dilation thing every year. Once every few years is fine.

iTouch made waiting for my appointment so much better.
