Help me make a playlist!

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

I thought this might be fun...

I'm putting together a couple of playlists for two parties over easter, one is a New Orleans Mardi Gras-style thing (which most of us have no clue what really is - I was considering showing up 8 hours late dressed as George Bush, but I digress...) and one is a good ole balls to the walls PARTY PARTY.

I've got a very large collection of music that I need to whittle down for these purposes, and I need your help!

In stock:
Large quantities of 80s pop/dance stuff
HUUUUGE amounts of 60s and 70s soul, funk and rock (well over 1000 albums)
Smallish amounts of 90s and '00s hits and bits and pieces
A rather large unsorted collection of Cajun music, classic and newer

So, what has to be on these lists? If you have complete lists I'll happily accept those too.

Mardi-gras is already over, so I guess you would already be over 8 hours late!

as for the music, I would go with more jazz with some heavy accordian work and less 80's pop :P

For the Mardi Gras party, I'd recommend music by some of the following artists...

Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Buckwheat Zydeco
The Neville Brothers
Donna the Buffalo
Harry Connick, Jr.
The Meters

I like your list Spang but isn't playing the electric slide 2nd a little early? For that kind of song, don't you need people to have a few drinks first? Maybe at the halfway point or are you looking for people to still have coordination? : )

Same thing with Rick James Super Freak. If you want to see people get all crazy when this song comes on, they need a few drinks first! I may have missed it on your list but don't forget Sir Mix-A-Lot's Baby Got Back. Great party song that always gets people moving.

I've never seen a 3rd grader do the Electric Slide, only adults; young and old.
