Ventrilo Woes

I'm having issues with getting Ventrilo to work while playing EQ2 and am stumped. I've never had any Ventrilo issues before (on my old PC), so I wonder if this is a problem that's related to Vista or to EQ2.

Here's the scenario:

1. Installed latest Ventrilo client
2. Set Push To Talk (PTT) key to ~ (also tried R-CTRL, Keypad -, and several others)
3. Connect to server
4. Can hear conversations fine
5. Press PTT Key and speak. CANNOT be heard
6. Bring Vent Channel Window up
7. Press PTT Key and speak. CAN be heard.

So the problem appears to be when Vent is not active (it's either behind my EQ2 Window or minimized to System Tray), PTT doesn't work, yet when the window is restored and active, it does. I've tried a number of different PTT keys on the chance that EQ2 intercepted them for game control.

Thoughts?

Never mind, Google is your friend. I was too busy trying to heal Canelek's Swashbuckler with Sylvosian-style pulls while troubleshooting this to try Google before, but after posting thought "duh"...
FIX: Ventrilo 2.3.0 and Vista Press-to-Talk Fix
11 03 2007

Over the past few months, I’ve “tolerated” an inconsistant bug with Ventrilo and Vista—the inability to use my press-to-talk (PTT) key while in another window, like EverQuest 2. I would constantly alt-tab in and out of the game, which made raid leading an… experience in button smashing. Last night, I stumbled upon a couple of forum posts that list a few fixes:

http://www.ventrilo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14980

http://www.ventrilo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17210

It lists three things to check:

1. Set Ventrilo to “Run as administrator”
2. Set Ventrilo to emulate Windows XP SP2.
3. Set your game, EQ2, to “Ignore Windows Hotkey”

For me, the winner was #1, setting it to run as an administrator. #2 and #3, tried both separately and together, did not resolve the issue; however, #1 separately does. Just seems odd. I have to run EQ2 as administrator, Ventrilo, Visual Studio… UAC is defeated a BIT by just automagically turning “run as administrator” on for every program. <shrug />
At least I know I'm not insane and the issue really DOES exist.

OMG! Don't let Sylvos pull. Don't let anyone attempt a Sylvos pull. If anyone pulls like Sylvos it was a mistake of epic proportion. Flee the zone! Pick up your skirts and run away like a screaming school girl!

Sylvos was not pulling...it was just me pulling in a "Sylvos-like" fashion. :D

Glad you got your issue worked out Ash.

I have the solution, I haven't implemented it/tested it yet, but it seems reasonable as it's the exact issue.

And note that I didn't say a "Sylvos" pull, I said "Sylvosian-style". Was with some guildies and Cohonil kept managing to pull 4-5 when he wanted one (or in some case... none)! (which isn't really fair to Sylvos as he usually AIMS to pull the larger number).

P.S. Sylvos pulls for us too, just not this time!

Back on topic.. yes, changing Vent to run as Administrator indeed enabled PTT to work in EQ2
