Hit Random

I believe Drolgin had a thread about this a while back. I sometimes laugh at the mix of music as it comes up on my playlists due to the diverse things I listen to. Here's what we can do (hell, I will do it myself if some of you are afraid we'll rag on you for all of the Britney Spears music you have):
1) Hit random on your favorite music player. It doesn't matter what it is.
2) Post the first three songs that play.
3) Don't cheat! (but you can feel free to offer any "reasoning" you may have had for having a particular song in the playlist in the first place)

My first contributions would be:

Willie Nelson - Pancho and Lefty (off of the album Love Songs)
Nirvana - School (off of the album From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah)
Reverend Horton Heat - Eat Steak (from the album Holy Roller)

Frantic - Metallica (St. Anger)
Twenty-One - Cranberries (No Need to Argue)
Knock-Down Drag-Out - Wheezer (Green Album)

I was pretty happy with the random this time. I'm sure I have some less than flattering music on there somewhere :P

These come off my Zen Vision, which is sporting a slimmed down 2986 songs in order to make room for the complete Firefly series, The Office: seasons 1&2, The Illusionist, The Island, and The Day After Tomorrow. I still have almost 5G free, but I usually carry more movies than what is on there right now.

I'm glad I took the time and trimmed the fat as far as music I carry with me at all times. I'm on a movie kick right now, so that is taking prioriety. I watch/listen to at least 3 movies a day while working.

Whee fun!

Cracker - Eurotrash Girl (from Kerosene Hat)
Tone Loc - Wild Thing (Ultimix)
UGK - I Wanna Be Free (from Dirty Money)

I have a super-odd mix of music on my iPod right now since I am trying to update the ratings on most of my music. It is nice that iTunes will finally save the ratings after I rate songs on the iPod and sync.

This is always fun :)

Queens of the stone age - You would know
A fantastic song from the first QOTSA album (which is a brilliant album) - They didn't play this one when I saw them about 2 weeks ago, which is a shame. This reminded me that this song existed :)

Twisted Innards - Antennas to Heaven
2 piece post-rock band that are awesome. This isn't one of their best songs but I still really like them.

Green grass of tunnel - Múm
Simply amazing - this is a ridiculously beautiful little song.

one more:

The Staple Singers - Respect Yourself
Peter Gabriel - Secret World
Amy Winehouse - What Is It About Men

hrm, not a bad threesome there.

trying again...

Zeke Strong & The Ladyetts - I Laugh & Talk (But I Don't Play)
Brian Eno - Blank Frank
Rachelle Ferrell - You Don't Know What Love Is

a little more esoteric that time.

I just got my new 160GB iPod Classic last week, so this exercise could end up being interesting. I have 15336 songs currently on it, and I'm certain I haven't listen to a huge number of them, but here goes.

"10-20-Life" Trick Daddy - Don't think I've ever heard this song.
"Love Me or Hate Me" Lady Sovereign - I'm undecided on this one. Decent beat, her accent interesting.
"In the Cold, Cold Night" The White Stripes - The only one of the three that I might have actually heard if I were picking out albums to listen to today.

Ten songs that came up in order. Actually was good set for therapy.

Don't Take My Sunshine Away - Sparklehorse
Emancipate Yourself - Consolidated
Encore - From Tenacious D in Phoenix Concert
Girl U Want - Soundgarden
All For You - David Baerwald
Shadows In the Rain - Police
I Want to be the Boy - White Stripes
Slow Emotion Replay - The The
I feel You - Depeche Mode
Fuckin' Up - Pearl Jam

I sometimes wonder if the damn IPOD can glean meanings from songs or has some weird knowledgge base. Sometimes the random gives you amazing mixes like Bauhaus followed immediately by a Peter Murphy song into a Love and Rockets song.

The other day I got War Pigs by Black Sabbath followed by a U2 version of Fortunate Son which I found interesting since the first song is about the leaders wanting to go to war and the second is about the soldier having to go fight the front lines because of the stupid leaders.

Fucking awesome song. Super Bon Bon (same album) is still a regular spin on my player a decade after it was released. Unmarked Helicopters is a track off of the Xfiles soundtrack that also gets a lot of playtime, especially around Halloween.

This may be a bit more odd than normal since I finally added all of the songs from artists with names up to the letter B this morning which I had not rated before...plus whatever was still not rated from last week:

Aquagen - Ihr Seid So Leise! (DJ Tibor Remix)
ATC - Around the World (Beach Club Piano Remix)
The Union Underground - Natural High (from An Education in Rebellion)

hah, nice flow from the soft piano-laden dance song to a hard guitar riff in Natural High.
