I read something recently about the smoking, so yeah that's true, although what I read implied that he had quit (or was at least trying to quit).

While it may seem a little unusual for a contemporary president to be a smoker, I don't think anyone really cares.

After that is in place, then I expect them to attempt to institute a gun control law federally that basically echos what is in California. I believe it will be year 3 before they try to eliminate concealed carry federally. Year 4 is when I believe he will look for funding for the national police force.

Time to revisit this one as I was perusing Obama's transition website. Lets quote directly from the website shall we?

http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy_agenda/
Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent
Problem 1....without a provision to limit the access that Tiahrt covered to ONLY police, you are talking about opening up news outlets and anti-gun activists to gain and publish information that should not be available to them. The police already have access to that information when investigating a crime related to said firearm. We have already seen in Ohio how the information can be used by those cocksuckers to suit their own goals no matter who gets hurt by it. Several news agencies published the entire lists of concealed carry permit holders for their entire county base.....which you might as well publish a list of houses that asshats can rob to get guns when no one is home.

Problem 2 is gun show "loopholes. There is no loophole. Dealers always have been and always will be required to do a federal background check.....even at the shows. All they want is to eliminate the right of individuals to sell to other individuals.

Problem 3 is making a gun "childproof". How the fuck do you do that? Oh I suppose you could make every firearm in the country illegal without it having some type of biometric device...but that is not feasible. Maybe they should go back to the old days of actually teaching kids firearm safety.

Kilmoll: Midnyte for 2009.

A. Conceal permits, as you're might be aware, are for concealing a weapon - usually upon your person. How does that translate to guns left at home dipshit? If anything, that's a list of places where guns aren't likely to be unless someone is actually home, and if the people are home, it's a list of people that are armed. Sounds like a list of places to avoid trying to rob to me.

B. You shouldn't be able to buy a gun at a gun show without the same cooling off period and background check that's required at a gun store. Being that I can walk into a show and walk out with any number of firearms is a loophole that needs to be closed. Whaa fucking whaa you have to wait. So what, I've done it for every gun I own. Guess what, it doesn't kill you to wait a few days. I'm sure the gun shows and vendors will be fine. Charge a little extra for shipping and viola, problem solved.

C. By childproof, I'm assuming passing a law stating that guns must have some sort of trigger lock or be in a locked container. But of course, if you want to push for biometrics by all means. Play the part of whiny bitch some more.

And I don't know even ONE person with a CCW that owns only a single firearm. I can put cash down that if I pick a random name off their list that there will be at LEAST 1 long gun in that house even if they have a handgun on their person. In most cases they will own several long guns and more than one handgun.

As for a gun show, the dealers that have those booths ARE required to do the background check you fucking retard. If an individual walks in and has a gun to sell, they are permitted to do so. It would be no different than you selling it by taking an ad out or having an acquaintance buy it from you. So how do you close a loophole of allowing individual sales? There really is no "cooling down" period here as it is. They run you through the federal checks on the spot and you walk out with what you went in for. At least that is the case for most...maybe it is because I have had the checks all run before.

Every gun sold now already comes with a trigger lock. Many of them now also are being sold standard with an additional hammer lock built into the gun. How much are they going to need to push for?

That is not the "change" that got him elected. If it is indeed the only change, he will be gone in 4 years and people are going to stick a fundy like Huckabee or, God forbid, Palin in there in 2012. As someone that views themself a moderate with conservative lean, I do NOT want that any more than I want Obama or another far left liberal.

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban
The Ban Expired in 2004 During the Bush Administration.
By JASON RYAN
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

Wednesday Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Obama administration will seek to reinstitute the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004 during the Bush administration.
As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Help, I'm being oppressed! How dare he do that, it says so right in the 2nd Amendment:
The 2nd Amendment wrote:A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines, pistol grips and flash-suppressors, shall not be infringed.
Interestingly enough, a higher % of republicans voted for the original assault weapons ban than did democrats.

I really don't understand that news article other than it just being sensationalism. Didn't the assault rifle ban just prevent you from getting a semi-automatic with more than 1 feature (i.e. you could not get a semi-automatic rifle with both a pistol grip, and a grenade launcher, but you could get a semi-automatic rifle with just a grenade launcher)? If so, that article talking about drug cartels with automatic weapons and grenades is completely retarded, since the bill would do nothing to prevent those from being taken across the border into Mexico.

The ban will include certain types of weapons by name, such as AK-47, TEC-9, G36, AR15 etc.

It also includes;
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Folding stock
pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)

The new ban they have written will be permanent and also included several other provisions that in one passage reads "will ban any weapon that was initially designed to be used for a military purpose as designated by the Attorney General". That can include pretty much every firearm in existence in the US today. With a guy like Eric Holder in that position, it is going to be major problems.

The thing that makes no sense is that they want to ban semi auto rifles....not full auto. Pistol grips and flash supressors do jack and shit to make a gun more dangerous. Neither does a "grenade launcher" which is just a muzzle device that allows a grenade to be launched by firing a blank in the gun and the gas launches a grenade from it. Of course you cannot GET those grenades, but the device sure makes the rifle more dangerous!

They will also have the magazine capacity restrictions and shotgun restrictions introduced with it like last time. None of this has a goddamn thing to do with mexican cartels getting full-auto weapons via illegal arms dealers in their own damn country and points south. If someone here wanted a full auto weapon, they would go to Mexico to get it....not buy it from anywhere here as the prices are fucking ridiculous here on autos.

Yes I can well imagine how all of those things could be innocently used in a democratic nation in the 21st century.

Fucking neanderthal.

Instead of a ban I'd like to see just an incredibly heavy tax put on them.

Instead of heavy taxes, I would like to see laws enforced and criminals removed permanently from our streets.

How? For what?

Are you suggesting Judge Dredd sans flying motorcycles? Or do you think selling weed with a 9 in your waist band should be a capital/life sentence?

Where exactly are you going with this idiocy? How far? Perhaps a little ethnic cleansing? Nuke a few ghettos?

Only black people commit crimes. If we killed all the black people, there would be no crime.
