It isn't a crab, but I had a Ghost Shrimp that ate all of my fish once. It was fun to watch, and it got really big!

The only non-hermit crabs I've ever seen in a home context have been used to feed carnivorous turtles. You should get a carnivorous turtle instead. And let it eat crabs.

I bet he could make a killing by contracting the turtle out to a brothel!

yeah you are supposed to take out old food every day to avoid that

That sounds awful. Have fun cleaning flesh scraps out of the brackish water and rocks/sand in your crab cage while your crab tries to claw you every day.

its just distilled water with marine salt in it and the filters will handle a lot of it

ok so the tank i got was big enough but i couldn't find a proper filter that reached into the water while leaving enough room for dry land so until i can find that operation crab is on hold in the meantime i got two silver lyretail mollies they are pretty sweet one of them took a huge shit this morning

If you want to keep a partially filled aquarium clean and smelling ok get yourself a magnum H.O.T. filter. You will have to buy some plastic tubing that fits around the intake tube to reach all the way to the bottom of the tank.

Make sure you put the strainer onto the intake end of the extended tubing or you'll have no animals left inside the tank in short order hehe. Its best to put enough tubing on there to have your intake strainer laying flat on the bottom instead of a vertical orientation.

Before you start the filter you'll have to take the top off and fill it full of water, this will prime the pump so to speak. Plug it in and it should start right up.

Those types of filters are relatively expensive but will keep the water sparkling clear. I used to keep snapping turtles as pets, and they shit like you wouldn't believe, but the magnum brand filters kept the tank very clean.

A cheaper alternative but not as good is one of those corner filters that work on an air pump, I cant remember the specific name of them but they look like a little box that just sits down in the corner of the tank.

i actually just got fish, 2 silver lyretail mollies and 2 peppered cory catfish and a snail
i'm just using the filter that came with a kit, a top fin 10 gallon
i'll look into a better filter i suppose, can i overfilter with a 10 gallon tank?

You should get a coconut crab and train it to chase after people in your neighborhood.

a snail? bleh I hope it wasn't from Petsmart. We got one snail, which had eggs on it somewhere that were of a totally different kind of snail. The kind that breed asexually. It is so hard to get rid of them. We did water treatments, we scopped them and flushed them, bought puffer fish to eat them, and we still have some. Snails suck. Not sure if it's all mollies, but we got 2 dalmation mollies which is a lie these things turned nearly all black, and they breed like mad. We had a 10 gallon tank now it's 55gal, because of the mollies. They have live birth so be looking at the bottom for babies. It's all cute at first, but when you have like enough to start naming them after the dogs in the 101 dalmation movies it's a bit insane.

both my mollies are female and none of them were pregnant when i bought them, the snail doesn't do anything but climb up plants and fall off like a retard

i got a marineland penguin 150 biowheel filter
the smell isn't there anymore but my water is really kinda cloudy, i'm not sure why.

i'm going to do the next water chain with a gravel vaccuum

i should have just got a dog...
