Tonight there was a guy shouting that he was trying to form a pickup raid on Nagafen. I have never been in on a Nagafen kill, so I was interested, and joined the chat channel he directed me too.

This is where it started to get odd. The guy organizing the raid(whom I will not name, in case my opinon here is wrong) stated that the raid would use DKP to assign loot. Now I have read about DKP and know how it works(points are earned by raiding and spent to accquire loot), but it seemed like an odd thing for a pickup raid.

After a few more inquiries, I learned that the guy organizing the raid was going to start with 4 points, while everyone else was going to start with 1 point. This to me would seem quite shady in that the raid leader is basically guaranteeing himself the best item that drops.

So I just wanted to ask about this here and see if my opinion if the situation was off base. I must also admit that I look forward to some of the more colorful posters sounding off on this event.

Did anyone ask him why he gets 4 & everyone else 1? Sounds like a loot whore to me.

Unless he keeps tracks of each person's points individually, then ya.. that's kinda shady. We use DKP in my guild.. it works very well, but it requires a lot of meticulous book keeping.

Though I think anyone who puts forth the effort to organize a pickup raid deserves whichever item he wants.

Bout 2 years ago that was the norm for a pick up raid on Vox or Naggy, the raid leader got his or her choice of one item the rest went to the usable classes and was rolled for, atleast that was my experience with them.

Unless this guy is planning to do Naggy and Vox pickup for the next couple months DKP shouldn't and cannot be used.

DKP is used in multiple raids, you can't use it for 1 raid. The idea is to award loots to those who attent more raids, so there is no way to differentiate people on the first raid. Everyone has attended 1 raid .

The guy was ful of shit, and was just trying to scam those that were attending the raid.

I used to lead pickup raids in fear a long time ago. I used to just award shit to who I thought would benefit most. Never once did I award myself something... I don't know, I guess it depends on the leader.

you cant do DKP without it being a long term stable guild population. you also have to be meticulous with attendance tracking as well as point assignments for loots, and decidiing who is eligible for loots when, bla bla bla.

there are some things that i like about it, froma conceptual standpoint. Implementing it is not trivial, and you sure as hell can't do it on some bs pickup nag raid.

$10 says after this guy gets a CoF he is done organizing the raid.

though i agree to a point with Karae, that organizing a pickup raid on something that actually succeeds is no easy task, and whoever busts their ass to get that done probably deserves loot.

Heh, if I was organizing the raid I would /random to all people who could benefit from the item.

The raid leader would get a bonus to his role to increase his chances....but not a sure thing.

Like random 1000, raid leader gets +100 to his roll. He could still roll a 1 and be laughed at with a 101. Or anything under a 600 and he would probably lose...because if you have a few people rolling chances are out of 1000 atleast one person will roll 700 or higher. But if he rolled anything over a 900 he is guaranteed a win no matter what the other people roll.

Basically he just has a 10% better chance at getting loot then the other guys via my method.

So while I agree a raid leader deserves more, I don't think they should be guaranteed an item....or they should just CLEARLY state that they are taking such and such if it drops.

DKP is for multiple raid situations. However if he plans on leading multiple raids, I can understand his desire to use DKP. Although if the raid quality is 1 point and he is getting 4 points then I think that's a little fucked up......400% is one hell of a modifier.
