Apple Aluminum Keyboard function key wierdness.

So I got an iMac for xmas and its pretty amazing and all that, but the keyboard function keys are killing me.
They moved the volume/next/pause buttons over, and left 7 perfectly useful function keys devoid of...functions.
I've looked, but from what I've seen the volume keys are not remappable? I saw in winnows apple post that he remapped the keys, but for windows. Does anyone if it's possible to remap those in OSX?
