I have a 15 Warlock, and am currently leveling a 23 Wizard. I see that the initial descriptions via SoE are that Wizards do best on single targets where Warlocks are better AoE. Is this still true?

I LOVE AoE--totally enjoying the linked encounters in the early 20s w/ the wizard, even though it does not seem as advertised--I had not done many linked encounters with the warlock for some reason--may need to revisit that.

Should I bail the wizzie for AoE and go back to the 'lock or is the wizard viable long term for AoE (mainly solo)?

Nah, WoW Hunter made me bored. I have no desire to play a pet class again due to them usually being retardedly easy.

My "main" for now is a 39 Brig, but I have never really played a pure caster in any game... I do want the best AoE I can get though!

Warlocks are good at dying from overaggro...as in, they start to cast a spell and they die...just die.

The (*edit)Coercer is the most fun class to play, in my opinion. You have to charm mobs, then use them against enemies. The rub lies in the fact that charm can break at any second; there will be a bright flash on the screen, then two seconds later charm breaks. You've got to be on your toes at every single moment. It was always a rush playing him. The only downside is, I couldn't multitask while playing my coercer because if I broke my concentration, that would be the instant I got owned by my one time-pet.

Isn't that the Coercer? Conjurers have their own summoning spells.

My Coercer is in the low to mid 20's range. Much fun to play. I should actually have more play time in the next week since some things are slowing down at work.

I haven't played a warlock past maybe level 20, but I can say that my wizzie is a blast to solo. My only problem (and I don't understand why) is that people don't want a wizard for DPS. I can shell out 20k+ in a single hit (and it's AE, though short ranged) and people tell me they're looking for *insert damage class here*.

I believe the difference lies in what the various encounter AE spells do. My 2 encounter AE spells are both DoT, while the warlock one that I recall was straight up damage. I've grouped with warlocks, and I tend to out damage them, but it's hard to tell if that's because of how the character is being played (myself or the warlock), or if it is just inherent in the classes.
