The 8800 GT does a very convincing imitation of the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB when running the latest games, even at high resolutions and quality settings, with antialiasing and high-quality texture filtering. Its G92 GPU has all of the GeForce 8800 goodness we've come to appreciate in the past year or so, including DX10 support, coverage-sampled antialiasing, and top-notch overall image quality. The card is quiet and draws relatively little power compared to its competitors, and it will only occupy a single slot in your PC. That's a stunning total package, sort of what it would be like if Jessica Biel had a brain.

With pricing between $199 and $249, I find it hard to recommend anything else—especially since we found generally playable settings at 2560x1600 resolution in some of the most intensive new games (except for Crysis, which is in a class by itself.) I expect we may see some more G92-based products popping up in the coming weeks or months, but for most folks, this will be the version to have.

Going to have to wait a week or two for the pricing to settle back down to those levels mentioned, but remember, the "old" GTS is being phased out, or is phased out, and what is left on the shelf is the last of it. The new GTS will only be available in 640mb version, and will have all the same shader power of the GT. Its odd that they would not just call it an 8850, but whatever...buyer beware when looking at the GTS!

Hoping the 8800Ultra drops more. Although $600 is reasonable (sorta).

Whenever I get a 30" Dell, I'll add 200.00 to the price as I'll have to get one of these cards at the same time. I'll need two video cards anyway to run a 30" Monitor with 24" monitors on each side. That will free up the fourth DVI port for my projector which I need as well.

I've always been a fan of the GT nVidia series having owned a 6800GT before my current 7800GT. Both have been great, stable cards with OC capabilities up to near GTX speeds (although in the comments above, the 8800GT is being compared to a GTS not X)

You might have missed it in the other thread, but all the 8800's can run 2 30" monitors, due to dual dual-link dvi ports. You might have meant you wanted 2 cards for performance, though.

He's going to have a hell of a setup... 24" + 30" + 24" + projector. 4 dvi ports, 2 cards. I r teh jealous.

I'm holding out for:
-GTS Refresh
-RV670 release
-Initial GT demand to be met and prices to stabalize
