Looking for opinions on which IM program is best for handling several different services. Currently playing around with Pidgin and Trillian. Any testimonials? Is either of them a huge resource whore?

I use Trillian and am quite happy with it. I use Pidgen in Linux and I don't think it's as feature rich (especially for handling IRC auto logins etc)

I've used gaim/pidgin for years on my linux boxes. I have never had any complaints, but I've never used it on a windows machine so I can't speak for how good or bad it is on that platform. I can't say anything about Trillian since I've never used it, but I've used Miranda IM for a while on my windows machines, and I like it. If you're looking for a multi-protocol chat application with a small system footprint, you might want to give it a look.

Been a long-time user of Trillian Pro. No complaints.

Ditto on Trillian. Only thing missing from it is support for Google's IM and/or MySpace's IM.

I used to use a plug-in for Trillian Pro that let me chat with people in EQ back when EQ's offline chat app was horrendous. For that reason, it wins.

also been a happy trillian user for many years. there have only been a couple of times it was trouble and that was typically when a new version of one the client IM's came out. Fixes came out within a day.

The Jabber plug-in supports Google's IM protocol, so I know that works. :P

Trillian Pro is great on the PC, Adium is great on the Mac, Meebo is great on a PC you don't have any control over.

Formerly a Trillian Pro user, now using Miranda, after some Trillian crashing issues that I could not resolve.

Miranda is lightweight, and does not have all of the features of trillian, but with plugin's you can do most of the good stuff.
