Multimedia Techie Question

Ok, I probably should have posted this in the Tech forums, but I know this forum gets more traffic.
I'm creating SWF files for a computer-based training program. The SWF files are linked into in a propietary XML system that uses an embedded Windows Media Player app to play the video. Problem is, the Windows Media Player controls do not work. Play/pause works, but the slider bar doesn't move and the ffw/rew buttons are grayed out. The video plays fine. I created an AVI file out of the same FLA file and the controls worked!
I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this kind of thing. My supervisor seems to think its some setting in the Flash file itself. I can't find anything of the sort. I haven't had any luck googling the issue either.
(Note I did not create the file, another vendor did. I've been hired to convert this monster into this proprietary authoring system. I downloaded a trial version of Flash to try and figure this crap out, with no real luck.)
Anyone have any experience with SWF files and media controls who might have a suggestion?
