I feel so inadequate with a name like "Steve" now.

Working in medical records, I see the names for every child born in our hospital. I have seen names that would make that one look entirely normal. Seriously.

My favorite had to be 3 children named Lavithan, Lucifer, and Natas. That last one is Satan spelled backwards, get it? The kids were aged between 2 and 5. They were from out of town and came in through the ER or something. Lord, I wished I could've seen the parents! Naveah is the clever christian way of naming their offspring, which is equally stupid IMO, but whatever.

Don't get me started on the black names. Many of them look like they dropped an apple on the keyboard while typing the birth certificate. I can't pronounce or spell them. Most of the mothers make up the name on the spot, including the spelling. It's a disaster. They walk out of here with a baby and they have to keep reading it's typed birth certificate in order to know how to spell it's name. That's an excellent start on life!

Whitey has some strange baby naming habits as well. Why does every kid need 5+ goddamn names? Shawn Micheal Scott Lewis Johnson? WTF? Hannah Jennifer Elizabeth Harper? Pick one, faggot! This is the trend I notice more than anything with the current generation of parents and I think it's pretty stupid.

This is as good a place as any to say it. There are too many young, single mothers out there. It's a crying shame to let a newborn go home with a 15 year old girl who dosen't know which man to list for paternity, and it happens all the fucking time. I answer this question too much: My husband/boyfriend is in jail/prison. How will he be able to sign the paperwork? We should just print out flyers and give them to pregnant women when they first register.

Its stuff like that that make me happy that here in DK you cant just name your kid anything you want. We actually got a list of approved first names, and if the name you want your kid to have arent on it, youre shit out of luck. You can of course fight to get it added on the list, and it do happen on occasion (a lot of moslim names got added the last 20 years for example), but its rare.

For last names, kid get the parents surname, or if they got different surnames they decide on one of them. If you want another surname, its gotta follow these rules:
1. Its not a "family" name, (certain family names, usually based on birth area, royal titles or the like can be served, so anyone cant be mistaken as part of that family)
2. Its not a commonly known historical name.
3. Its not a spelling thats likely to get confused with 1 and 2.
4. Its not a foreigh last name thats commonly known in denmark (as for example in 1)
5. Its not by speach or typing agains danish language rules.
6. Its not a first name (so you cant be called Harold Harold for example)
7. Its not unseemlingly or can be offensive (so no Adolf Hitler, Claus Fuckyou or the like)

List of approved boy names:

List of approved girl names:

There are of course some disadvantages to our system, but ill take those any day over having a kid called Special K, or Pajamas (my cousin studied with a girl named that in the US).
I think the only major fight over a name we had here the last few years was a mother who wanted to call her kid Kristoffer, but wanted to use the "ph" spelling, so the kid would be called Kristophpher, that was denied.

I find a lot of the names I see/hear to be utterly ridiculous as much as the next person, however I 150% disagree with anyone telling you what you can/can't name your child.

We protect children so much... why not protect them from their idiot parents? Your name is very important in this world and it can shape who you become... I grew up with an unusual name and I know it affected me... Unusual is one thing (Fosco) but to have a ridiculous name like Special K or Pajamas is like encouraging suicide..

Yeah but if in 20 years every kid is named Icy, Pajama, or Max Power then it wont be unusual, it will be... normal.

Looking at 1st and 2nd grade class rosters now is like this:
Tyler, Amber, Jorden, Amber, Brittney, Amber, Amber, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Amber, Jorden, Brittney.

I don't disagree with Funk, but agree with Fash as well. These idiot parents are setting their kids up for torment at school and for lifelong discrimination.
