So yeah, today my Commander calls me at 0930... waking me up.
I answer the phone out of a sleep groggy as hell, but still in the back of my mind knowing today is promotion release day...
He asks to speak to "Master Sergeant Xanupox El'Ninjapox"!!!!
Yeah baby, Senior Non-Commissioned Officer I am now! Promotion line is 354 so I will be putting the stripe on during the first month of the promo cycle too, no waiting for me!

I take it you are not the same person in the USAF as you were in EQ or here even. That or you matured your ass off or they are seriously hurting for E-7's. Either way, Grats!

Woot, thanks guys. It's still sinking in... now beginning to realize all the stuff I will have to take care of over the next month. The alterations on all the uniforms ala stripes, new ID... but hey its all for good.
As far as the game, the character xanupox and myself in RL... heh, well I have been known to train many poor souls that get in my way of the snack bar we have at work, does that count?

Gratz! I only got up to E-4 Sgt. before I got out. I tested for Staff but got out before the results.

I would congratulate you, but I know a lot of people who made MSgt, and most didn't deserve Tech... I would say only about 1 out of 3 was actually up to what I would consider snuff for a Master Seargent. If you know your shit and mind your manners, it isn't hard to make MSgt in the Air Force.

What constitutes the commisioned vs. non-commisioned? Do you technically get outranked by 2nd lieuts but there's an understanding that most of them are 22 yr old rotc grads? Are E's and O's separated for the most part? I know crap about the ranking system except that a former co-worker of mine and friend got promoted to Major about 4 or 5 years ago and was pretty jazzed about it. Really bright guy, reminds me that I haven't spoken w/ him in over a year.
Regardless, congrats

Basically a Commissioned officer is the O ranks, LT, Capts, Majors and up to the generals. They get paid more, are in more limited jobs and are expected to hold a higher standard when it comes to military duties, offtime activities and community involvment.
Non are basically the grunts, who work thier way up and get promoted enough to be the leaders of the work force, with the officers overwatching everything.
A 4 year college degree is required to become an officer as well, whereas a NCO does not have this requirement.
There are way less officers than NCOs and they get paid about twice as much for the time in service/rank comensurate.
They also have no life and are expected to live, eat, sleep and breath Air Force doctrine for thier 20 years or they just wont make the cut past O-3. On the otherhand, NCO can just come to work, do his job and leave and forget about the military until the next time he has to go back to work... <my mantra.
So thats about how it is...oh yea if you want to fly you have to be a commissioned officer.

Yay! I knew it was only a matter of time before the old "Chair Force" line or "Air Conditioned Tents" line got busted out. There are a million of them, and they NEVER get old! I love it that I worked 10-12 hours a day busting my knuckles and getting coolant/JP-8/hydraulic fluid in my eyes to keep those soldiers safe from major engagements, only to be told by those soldiers that I sit in a chair instead of doing
real work. I don't think anyone who has a rifle by his side while on duty can tell me about what real work is. It is not manual labor. I would have killed to be marching 45 miles in full gear with loaded packs instead of canning a precooler only to find the part you canned is just as bad as the one you were replacing. Getting shot at doesn't take any skill at all. Keeping 20 bombers in top form in a shop with 12 people to cover 3 shifts and 7 2-5 ship sorties every day, where half of the aircraft is "your system" is much more difficult than any job I can think of in the Marines or Army, and the Navy only qualifies because they fix planes too. And it was more fun, to boot! Chair Force! Hah!

Chairforce? Depends... Al seems to be a flightline greasemonkey. Not Chairforce material.
I am the essence of chairforce though.
I goto work, take over the chair... I unpack my notebook and connect to the internet, my private equipment. I fire up LOTRO and play it nonstop for 6 hours at work. Then for the last 2 hours of my shift, I actually do my job, which requires a ton of cut/paste into templates.
Outside of that, I have a Radio, Cable TV, Air Conditioner, Snackbar and a couch if I get really bored.
So, it depends I guess.
