Advice on weight gain suppliments

Post by MooZilla »

I went to GNC today and bought... http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?pr ... age=family ..this. I'm about 5'11" and 140 pounds; a typical hardgainer. I used to work out a lot, but never saw any impressive results. My hunch is that i wasnt taking in enough calories. I'll probably be trying this stuff for the next few months. I won't be able to work out that much, as i'll be traveling a lot, but i have one single question to ask. What's the best way to use this to gain the most weight if i won't be working out? It says that a full 3 scoop serving in 24oz is going to give me 2200 calories, and about 70g of protein. Do i really need this much every day, or should i cut it in half, or even a third? My goal is to gain at least 15 pounds over the next few months, and at the end of august, to start going to the gym to bulk up with some real muscle. Any advice on how to best do this? Should i mix some of this in with some pushups, and whatever weight training i can get done with a busy schedule? Should i cut the servings to better portion it? Continue a diet with 5-6 small meals a day (i have very high metabolism)?

You know, I've been having a lot of trouble putting on muscle as well lately. About two years ago I was under a very serious training regime and had a good 20 pounds of muscle on. I stopped training for awhile and got back into it. I'm basically lifting the same amount I was before, but I'm like 8 pounds underweight or so. I think its mainly a lack of calories, but in univerisity is near impossible to get any type of regular meal plan put together.

So I've started taking flaxseed oil pills, and getting my meals in when I can. I've always been into whey protein too.

Right now my own diet consists of like .. a decent breakfast, and then nothing till like 2 00- 2 30 when I get like a sandwich and an orange juice or something. Then nothing till like 6 pm when I have dinner, and maybe a snakc that night..

You need MORE Abe, that's why yer losin mass! :D

Hard to eat every three hours when in the University mostly.

Depends of course how many boxed meals you want to do / how long you want to stay in the kitchen.

A box with boiled cod and potatoes/chicken and rice can be brought almost everywhere tho.

Abe, add 2-3 Gainers to your regular diet per day.

Also, instead of that sandy + orange juice at 2, eat cod and potatoes or chicken and rice instead!

The snack at night could/should be containing lots o proteines and carbs as well.

With a lil change of your current diet, since it's hard to eat every three when studying that much, and the addition of gainers, you will add mass.

The breakfast should have some eggs though, oatmeal, bananas if possible (good energy), vitamins and omega-3.

Flaxseed oil pills

what Kwon said, shakes are a good supplement, but they are NOT your main source of proteine. You need to focus on the food and have maybe 2 or 3 shakes a day to supplement your diet.

Just bought this stuff called Quickmass, the guy at Heavyweights said that its the best they got. Its 1010 cals per serving and he recommended doing two servings a day.
I think I'm gonna do 2 protein shakes, 1 gainer, creatine, and flaxseed oil/omega 3 per day

Some diets from Hugo Girard

meal 1: 8 eggs, 3 cups of fruits

meal 2: 250 gr meat, 3/4 cup rice, 1 cup veggies

meal 3: shake with fruits

meal 4: 250 gr meat, 1 cup rice, 1 cup veggies

meal 5: shake with fruits

meal 6: 250 gr meat, 1 cup rice, 3 cup veggies

-

Current diet

Here’s the diet I am currently using, along with approximate meal times. The nutrition plan was developed but my good friend Daniel Bérubé from XPN. This is a relatively new trend: a low-hydrate diet but very high in protein and fat. The objective is to bring down my fat percentage to 10%. The plan might change as we get nearer to competitions and closer to our objectives.

Diet:

7 a. m.: 5 whole eggs

9:30 a.m.: 30 g nuts
60 g iso-extreme protein

12 p.m.: 300g of choice of meat
3c choice of vegetables

2 p.m.: 60g of iso-x protein

5:30 p.m.: 300g of meat
3 c of vegetables

8 p.m.: 4 whole eggs

9:30 p.m. 60g of protein
30g of nuts

Okay, the new diet switch is doing something!

The last two weeks or so I've put on about 3 - 4 pounds. My weights have been going up, but I'm becoming a bit more fatty. Infact someone commented on my 'delicious' love handles the other night. NONETHELESS, I benched 230 x 3 the other day, whereas the most I've benched prior was 200. I did 205 x 8 for three sets as well leading up too 230. Is this just extra fatty strength or am I putting on muscle?? I'll put a pic up in a few to get some opinions, joy?

Well, you will gain fat and muscle (mass) as you grow.

Eat , eat and eat and train, train and train and you will gain muscle.

When you have reached desired bulk, you go for the definition and do cardio and burn the fat to become ripped.

Don't worry about your lovehandles if your lats (latissimus dorsi) and shoulders (deltoids) are growing. You will still have a good V-shape and the lovehandles will not be so evident with huge back and shoulders.

You are putting on both fat and muscle but don't start the definition process (removing lovehandles/getting visible abs/veins etc) to get ripped until you have gained much more mass. You want to gain 10+ pounds first so 2007 will have to be your bulking year Abe.

Then get ready for beach 2008

Put up 245 on flat bench today, post three sets x 6 of 95 dumb bells. I'm weighing in between 158-160. I'm thinking I'll keep the bulk up going till about January then cut like a mad man.

The more mass/muscle you build during the bulk, the better you look after the definitionprocess.

If no mass, and you get ripped, you will just look skinny.

Re: Advice on weight gain suppliments

Maybe thats what I've been doing wrong. I use to just do a 15 minute warm up prior to my work out (sometimes 20) which would be on the rowing machine or just joggin'. Now that would be enough to rip me right up and cut all my fat after about five weeks give or take.

Do you think I was burning some muscle while doing the cardio and thats why I wasn't really getting the results I wanted Kwon-meister? The bulk is a -neccesity- and theres no way to keep myself ripped whilst putting on muscle effectively?

P.S.
I'm still very proud of putting up 245 :p

A 15 minute warm up exercize is a good idea, it shouldn't be what has been giving you problems. I would recommend doing some light exercizing before you start pumping iron, that way you are less prone to injuries.

There is no real way to stay ripped while you put on weight. In theory it could be done, but in practice it is impossible unless you have a lab at your disposal that can measure precisely how many calories you need etc.
