And although I am not sure I agree if Blu Cantrell really fits the category either, if she was a one hit wonder, the song that would be mentioned would be "Breathe" Featuring Sean Paul.

Gregg Alexander (aka: New Radicals) is an interesting one.

He's first and foremost a songwriter/producer.
The New Radicals were never really a band. He wrote and produced the whole album as well as playing guitar, bass and some of the drum tracks. He brought in friends and studio musicians to flesh out the rest of the tracks.

He toured the album for about 6 months then apparently just got sick of it and disbanded the 'band'.

I was lucky enough to catch him/them live back in 1998.


His songwriting and production credits are lengthy. His best known song is probably Game Of Love (Branch/Santana).
The New Radicals might have been one hit wonders, but the person behind them certainly isn't.

I actually researched this and started to make a post, but was detracted by the huge list of massive hits that never made the billboard charts.

In December 1998, the policy was further modified to allow tracks to chart on the basis of airplay alone without a commercial release. This change was made to reflect the changing realities of the music business. Previous to this, several substantial radio and MTV hits had not appeared on the Billboard chart at all, because companies chose not to release them as standalone singles, in hopes that their unavailability would spur greater album sales. Not offering a popular song to the public as a single was unheard of before the 1970s. So I guess, only including US charts, Spang is correct on a technicality. However, if you include UK charts, Jimi had several #1's (singles and albums).

I also thought to argue the point of an artist being so far ahead of his/her time that they could not be appreciated at their present time of release...but we'd just be arguing semantics, which I find to be pointless.

So it really all comes down to whether or not a #1 constitues a one-hit-wonder, and blahbity blah bullshit, etc.

Jimi is far from what I would consider a one-hit-wonder. But when it all comes down to it, what you (and someone else) considers a one-hit-wonder is pretty subjective.

It's not semantics. If someone ONLY remembers Hendrix for one song, which many do, why are they wrong for considering him to be a one-hit-wonder?

I meant one song for with they are remembered for by the general populace. I might only remember lynyrd skynyrd for freebird, but i wouldn't call him a one hit wonder, we all know he's had other popular shit whether or not i liked it or remember it.

"One hit wonder" is a two-parter. 'One hit' and then you 'wonder' "Whatever happened to them?"

Hendrix doesn't fit that classification.
