Golf! Or the stupid NHL rule of shootouts

The Leafs get knocked out of the playoffs by a shootout... NYI play NJD and the Devils have nothing to win/lose in the game. They make it close (without playing Brodeur) by tying the game 2-2 with 0.8 seconds left (cudos to the Devils for playing at least at half their best in the final 5 minutes - the rest of the game was crap...)
The Islanders go on to the playoffs and the Leafs go golfing for the summer... thanks to the shootout. Bullshit, I say... Bullshit!
I hate the shootout, always have, especially in this situation.
The NHL needs to change this rule.

Boo hoo. I'm sure the shootout's worked in favor of your team before. Plus, it's infinitely more entertaining than a tie.

Baseball and Basketball don't end in ties so I think Hockey shouldn't either. When it comes to team sports, I believe there should be a winner a the end of a game each and every time.
This is just more crying from a Leafs fan. Get over it. Your team sucks.

You should be complaining that the Devils didn't try.

Blaming the Leafs failure on a shootout is moronic. They are out of Toronto that is the problem

Fuck Zach Johnson.

I would also like to add that the NYI goalie, "Duby", played amazing. He made several nice saves during the game. He caught an unlucky break at the end.
As for Johnson, I really wanted to see Woods come back from those 3 rounds.

I guess you forgot that the Islanders pummeled the Leafs last thursday. The Leafs blew it when they had the chance. Cry about the exit to your team, not the shootout
Most people love the shootout for regular season games. There's excitment in the arena when it's time to go to one.

Take away Thursday or Saturdays bogey bogey finish and you have a playoff. If he could have hit even half the damn fairways he'd have won. Unreal.

The all play by the same rules. If the Leafs really deserved it, they could have shown it by winning in Long Island.
And WTF is all this whining from Leaf fans, including Don Cherry, about Brodeur not starting? The guy only set the record for wins and minutes played in a season. He started 78 fucking games, heads and shoulders beyond any other NHL goalie, 1 short of Grant Fuhr's record (from when he was on a nothing team in St. Louis, not a contender in Edmonton). And the Devils are supposed to throw him in, in a mean nothing game as opposed to resting him for the playoff marathon that starts in 3 days? Lou Lamarello's responsibility is the Devils, not the Burnt Leafs. Further to that, Clemenson played very well behind a team that had no real zip until the last 5 minutes of the game.
Honestly its a moot point. Isles or Leafs doesn;t matter: Buffalo will cruise through the first round... and it would have been more of a foregone conclusion with the piss poor team defense Toronto displays.

Eh, I think the shootout makes perfect sense because games ending in ties was supposed to be over when we all left elementary school and could handle losing things without pitching a fit (or most of us, anyhow).
And wtf is with the LEAFS.. it's leaves you stupid fucking Canadians...
Go Wild.

since you are adding could'ves and would'ves, dont forget to add all those birdie/eagle putts that johnson missed by less than inches.
and rory sabbatini's eagle putt on 8 might be one of the sweetest putts in master's history, even past Tiger's 13th birdie putt two years ago.

Stop fucking whining.
the Leafs go golfing for the summer... thanks to the shootout.
The Leafs are out of the playoffs because they didn't win the games they needed to win down the stretch.

Blah blah blah.... we got screwed etc.
What is the quote from the ESPN "On the bubble" commercial? I think it was "My mom said we should have won more home games."
Saying that your team didn't get into the playoffs because they lost 1 shootout is akin to saying I am not a millionaire because I bought a case of beer yesterday. It may be that I am not a millionaire because I am an alcoholic slack-ass, but it wasn't the $14 I spent on beer last night that got me there, it's been brewing (2 puns in 2 days!) for a long time.
PS: Go Sabres!

Don't half the teams get into the playoffs? I know zero about hockey but if half the teams get in that means you have to suck to not make it.

16 of 30 teams make the playoffs.
Same as the NBA.

This was the tightest playoff race in years. Just because 16 teams out of 30 make it in doesn't mean that they suck. So I guess you're right, you don't know anything about hockey.

This is one of the reasons why the NFL is so far ahead of all other sports leagues in terms of viewers and fans. For the most part the regular season of the NBA is irrelevant and unless you are full hard core hockey guy, the NHL is also irrelevant. Of course I don't know anything about hockey, nor do I care to know anything about it. I lived in Los Angeles when they got gretzky and decided to try hockey out and it was still boring.

I am also of the opinion that playoffs are better off being exclusive rather than inclusive. When I hear hockey players saying "We're just glad to still be in it" when half the fucking league is still in it, I really want to launch a puck into his grill.

Shoot outs are fun and exciting. How could a true fan ever wish them away?!?
