If you are a fan of quirky Avant Garde music check thes guys out...Amazing stuff lots of bowed guitar, voice as instrument etc...

I don't know the name of the song I've heard by them (it's called Untitled I think) but I really like it. I almost picked up an album at the store a couple weeks ago but it was Christmas and I already had 2 in hand that were for me and I was supposed to be spending money on other people!
The one song I've heard though, I liked... I thought it sounded kinda Radioheadish.

Someone sent me "Olsen Olsen" over irc a couple of years ago. I really liked their sound but wasn't able to find any others songs by them at that time. I'll have to try again.

Sigur Ros is one of my favorite bands, and when I saw them live it far surpassed any other live performance I have ever seen (and probably any that I will see in the future). While they were playing, everyone in the crowd was dead silent, staring towards the stage in rapt awe of the sheer emotional power of their music. Everything about that concert was perfect, and if you have the chance to go see Sigur Ros live you definitely should.
I have to disagree with the characterization of their music as "chilled out." There is absolutely zero about the tone and feeling of their music that could be classified as chill. Just because their lead singer doesn't sound like he just lost his foot in a lawnmower accident can you call their music mellow. IMO terms like "chill" ought to be used to refer to the tone of the music rather than the volume of the instruments.
A Silver Mount Zion and Godspeed You Black Emperor are also good, though I don't like the way Godspeed uses spoken word segments in their songs. I find that they often lose their momentum by doing so. A Silver Mount Zion has a tendency to degenerate into violin screeching on occasion, so I wind up listening to individual songs (some of which are amazing) rather than an entire album. Despite my issues with some of their music, though, I'd gladly listen to either of these bands before I subjected myself to 99.9% of the music on the radio.
