Would you re-date an ex who dumped you?

I found myself in this situation a week ago.
I said no.
Even though I spent at least 2 years of my life pining for this ridiculous woman after she left the house we shared and imagine I will forever carry the scar of her treachery *slits wrists and posts pics on myspace.*
I feel liberated

I feel for you. We went our seperate ways back in the summer of 98, I found out 2 years ago that she had been nailing a(n) (ex-)friend of mine while I was in South Dakota, in 97 and early 98. I was a in a bad spot when we split, but in retrospect, that whore can go to hell.

I'm under the Not Sure category...
I split with my girlfriend of two years in August.. Less then a week after we got back from vacation (in which I dropped about $1500) she dumped me. Gave me some bullshit reason I didnt want to hear and tried to justify herself.. I haven't spoken to her since...I was in a fucked up place for a few months after we split.. everything started to come crashin down around me and really tested me....But as always, I perservered.. And now when I look back on it all I feel is hate/anger/rage towards her.. So I really dont know what I do if that situation presented itself again.. I tell myself I would tell her to kindly walk in front of a freight train but I really dont know what I'd do until I was faced with it.
But looking back on all the amazing times we spent together, and then taking into consideration how she was so willing to just throw them in my face and walk away, I probably would never give her the time of day again.
I guess it all depends on the situation really. Although I kinda give them the two strike motto.. If it doesn't work the second time around it aint gonna work IMO...If it was mutual and you realized something like how much better off you were with them than without them, i'd give them a second change.. espicially if they didnt do you wrong in anyway (like cheat on you or some shit)

Probably, but I'd regret it soon after.

Depends on the reason for the split...but in general no...

I'd give her a punch card for 20 blow jobs and tell her I'd give my answer after the card was full.

I split up with Eric after the first year we dated. A year and a half later we got back togther. We've been together for several years now and will be getting married sometime in the next year. Sometimes the timing just isn't right the first time.

I agree, sometimes things just don't work out the first time for whatever reason.

Yeah but if it doesn't work the second time around, there is no third times a charm for me..if it doesnt work twice, its not gonna work a third time..

This is exactly what happened to me. I broke up with my gf after 1.5 years, got back together after 7 months. 7 years later, we got married last July. Or was it June. I'm in trouble.

you have a little time to figure that one out before you're beaten badly though!

Depends on how good the sex was. Even then it'd be over after a few rides and you can be the one to dump her this time.

my answer as well. If it was a mutual 'this isn't gonna work' (which isn't implied by 'dumped you'), then it's questionable.
I'd say if you got seriously hurt by this person, and you're considering it. You need to go get laid before you make a decision (and not with the person in question). Think with your head brain!

There's also the possibility that the person being dumped deserved it and they are lucky to get the person back.
Come on...sing along...this includes a part about friend's opinions as well!
"Sk8er Boi"
He was a boy
She was a girl
Can i make it any more obvious
He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can i say
He wanted her
She'd never tell secretly she wanted him as well
But all of her friends
Stuck up their nose
They had a problem with his baggy clothes
He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth
5 years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby she's all alone
She turns on tv
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rockin up MTV
She calls up her friends
They already know
And they've all got
Tickets to see his show
She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down
He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a super star
Slamming on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

There's trouble if your punch is a diamond and you find a few stars on it. A hanging chad means she didn't swallow!
In all seriousness, there's way too many variables so the answer has to be yes.

Look everyone. Winnow is cracking irrelevant jokes in a relationship thread.

As Winnow said, there are too many variables to say no.
If presented with such a situation, I'd probably go for it and commit until a reason not to was given.
My theory is that if a chick could dump me, then get the balls to try to get back together with me, she might really dig me and might really be sincere. Life's too short to not find out.

Never. Too many fish in the sea to waste time with someone who has already blown thier chance.
Put more stock in yourself.

I've done it once and it sended the 2nd time exactly like it did the first.
Was in a relationship after that for a year and change and after that ended this girl came back into the picture and tried to win me back.
I strung her along for about a week or so, got her hopes up and then told her to fuck off.
Last I heard she was in a relationship with another woman.

Had I taken her back, then maybe I wouldn't be married with the absolutly wonderful woman I'm with now.
It all worked out great for me. =)

I put yes because I have done that somewhat recently. Though that fell apart quickly. Don't fuckin do it. Just as a heads up. if it didn't work out once. It won't work out the second time.

Getting a straight answer on this is like asking everyone Cake or Pie? Think about it yourself because only you know the situation well enough and what has or hasn't happened.
Having said that, I'd definitely give huge thumbs up to Truant's suggestion. I swear it takes that next person to come along, whether it's a one night stand or a chance at another relationship to really open your eyes as to whether you wanna get back with her/him probably.
My advice? Go watch Swingers.

And no, we don't need a singular answer or conclusion to this question - the poll asks what you would do, not what everyone should.

i put yes, because I'm in this situation now

Situation isn't as bleak or bad as above, so sure, I will. 3+ years is hard to give up on someone just because they are having issues right now. Giving it a break, and will try again later! Hoping for Lala Luck!
