I want to play Vanguard!

I just had to restore my system though. The crashes from Vanguard can be rough. I'm getting some really bad ass crashes where when the system comes back up it may not respond....or sometimes it won't respond for 5 mins or so. I hope they fix this shit soonish.

The game is a HUGE memory hog.
It's not uncommon to see the client chewing 1.5 gigs of RAM.
/flush will help ingame when you start getting stuttering but when the game crashes your system will appear to freeze while it debugs and flushes the memory.
If you have less than 2 gigs of ram, I'd recommend upgrading.

I have 2gigs. I'll try the /flush thing periodically and see if that helps.
Thanks.

Vanguard crashes for me like once an hour, but it has yet to affect the OS in any way. I just restart it and I'm off to the races.

Oh wow. I crash every 30-40 mins.
You have nvidia? Maybe my problem is I have a Radeon card. /shrug

I have Nvidia and my crash rate is about the same as yours, Midnyte.

Oh. So much for that theory then, hehe.

I have a Core2 Duo with 2g ram and an ATI 9800 Crossfire. It runs EQ2 and WOW amazingly.

A comment made by Ryan Elam:
We certainly don’t run at the same frame rates as some MMOGs that have 1/16th the graphics to render that we do
I'm guessing he was talking specifically about WOW

No offense meant, but EQ2 and WoW are nowhere near a valid point of comparison for Vanguard.

Nods. I understand. I'm just disappointed about the crashing. The game runs pretty well at 1600 x 1050 on Balanced mode, but the crashes are just horendous.

I have yet to crash once in Vanguard.. really strange, my cousin had some graphics issues (couldn't read the Quest/Craft/Diplomacy screens) and I've never seen that either. Maybe I just got lucky. I've Alt-Tabbed out (only got one box up right now unless I bring the laptop home) to browse the web or into Trillian as well without issues.

You're lucky indeed. Go play the Lotto.

Sounds a lot like SWG at release, except the flush command was a bit different

Way more stable than SWG.
The launch has been far from flawless... but aside from a few poorly timed (but necessary) downtimes, I haven't had too many problems. I haven't heard too many people complaining of crashes.
I can play for hours without having to flush... other times I'll get bogged down and have to flush a couple times in a half hour.

Have you guys tried disabling your virus scanners while playing?

Going to try it right now. Thanks advice.

That seemed to help a lot. No crash in over 45 mins.

EXACTLY... FINALLY! SOMEONE GOT IT>!
EQ2 and WOW are coded projects.
VANGUARD IS A FUCKING VIRUS HACK!
There is a difference.
I still cannot believe you people paid for that shitware.

It seems to bother you though. Maybe that's why they did it.

I've heard that ATI cards have caused a bunch of projects. We ALL know how partial SOE has been to nVidia.

I'm running a 7900 GTX, and i've had very few crashed. Only 3 yesterday in a 12 hour session.
For those of you looking to squeeze a few more FPS out of VG, check <a href="
http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showth ... lkyvenom's guide</a> to optimizing your PC for vanguard. A critical component is defragging your harddrive. Everybody reports a significant gain in performance after a defrag, but the downside is that you'll have to repeat this every time there's a patch.

For the record, I doubt I'd be having crashes once per hour if I didn't insist on having all of my settings maxxed out.

It looks so beautiful that it's worth it to crash every now and then. Cai'al Brael at night with bloom and high-quality rendering n is AMAZING.

I've played since early in the public beta 5, and have crashed exactly once.

I've crashed twice since release and those may have been due to my router being fucked up and losing signal.
