Was in WalMart earlier this week, buying some last minute christmas foodstuffs, and I noticed this travesty, in passing, going down the horrendous hallway of frozen foods.
In this age of early cloning, nuke warfare, and the olsen twins, I bring you:
Blue. F'ing. Frenchfries.
Yes, these are blue. Not just blue. But DEAR LORD ITS A SMURF blue.
How far have we come that we have to make a food that isn't exactly healthy BLUE? Come ON folks. Have we gone this low? Is there no help?!

lol I showed my 6year old the green and purple ketchup once thinking maybe she'd like to try. She looked at them then at me with this horrified look in her eyes and said "Disgusting!"

Just so joo know, in my public relations principles and practices class at collegio, we were discussing how appearance really affects things. There was a whole chunk of my textbook devoted to a study of miscolored food:
Some people were invited to a luxurious candlelight dinner, formal, etc... They were all given the same meal and then scored the meal on appearance, flavor, etc.. The food all received outstanding scores.
The researchers then turned the room lights to full and showed the guest what they had really eatten: Green meat.
Long story longer, they basically ALL reported getting sick, diahrea, vomiting, etc... but the only thing that was wrong was that it was 'colored wrong'... the food was prepared to regular health standards

Pizza isn't far behind. This is what is going on in Green Bay.
I must admit, I have one in my freezer right now. I may actually make it for the game tomorrow. My wife thinks it is kind of gross looking.
Smerf blue..

Someone did an experiment with professional wine tasters. 5 different red wines and two identical white wines - only one of the whites was dyed red.
Not one of the testers came even close to guessing that one of the reds was actually the same whine as the white; none of them even reported tasting similar things, not even when prodded with leading questions.
I know it's true because I SAW IT ON TEH TELEVISION!

Bullshit.
Anyone that's had a few glasses of wine in their life can tell the difference between red and white wine.
It's like the difference between an orange and a grapefruit.

It might taste the same, but it's definately not an appealing color.
Smell largely affects taste as well....
I have seen the blue frenchfries....I noticed them months ago. There was another disgusting frenchfry next to it...was it like chocolate fries or something? I forget..
Why you would even bother taking generally accepted foods like frenchfries, dying them a disgusting color and stocking it as an entirely different product is beyond me.
Grats us raised fry prices to compensate for the loss they took on that failed product line, retards. I wonder what marketing genius thought of that one....you think the ketchup guy changed from Heinz to Ore Ida?

Haven't eaten that pizza yet. The way the Packers played was enough to make me want to vomit, didn't need a push with the green cheese.
Here is something that people will love.

I was a Packers fan yesterday, too .... they looked worse vs the Jets than the Pats did a week earlier. At least they played Terry Glenn enough to get NE and extra 4th round draft pick. Thanks - it sure makes up for not winning therebye knocking us out of the playoffs.

The thing about introducing any new food these days is that somewhere, someone did a market survey ... and the results led to the green light on blue fries. Very scarry

I have some of that ketchup in my fridge. It isn't as thick as regular ketchup, but it tastes the same

But why?
Why would you want purple ketchup if it tastes the same as red?
Why should the company make a seperate product lines?
Sure I'd eat purple ketchup or Blue french fries....I'd prefer regular, but I'd eat the fucked up shit if it's all they had.
I eat purple and red tortilla chips no big deal. But the thing is I don't eat them because they are purple or red. I eat them because that's what was put on my plate at the restaraunt. I'd be equally happy with plain tortilla chips....the company would spend less money on packaging, production, marketing, and distribution...those savings can be used to pay thier employees better or to pass the savings on to me(the consumer).
About the mountain dew comment.....I drink mountain dew for the taste, if they made another clear version of montain dew I would be equally confused unless it tasted different...much like crystal pepsi tasted different (although noone really liked it) and the new blue shit supossedly has berries in it...but the point is THOSE ARE NEW PRODUCTS. Purple ketchup or blue fries are not.
Chocolate fries are new products...not one I think that should have ever been invented, but it is new. All kids need are sugary carbs fried in oil. We don't have enough fat kids yet. I was just thinking the other day how cool it would be if they invented a sandwich spread made out of a mix of Crisco and sugar.

Well since some people get so defensive about a friggen softdrink, I'll apply it to dnL, 7up's reverse drink (the label is upside down, the bottle is clear with green shit inside, yadda yadda yadda). It tastes like a more crisp version of dew. But it's basically the same garbage. Mello Yello, dew, pepsi blue, it's all the same crap. I don't see why colored foods is so different than the colored drinks we swill

I direct you to
http://www.users.muohio.edu/daysa/Morrot.pdf (yeah sorry, link only comes as a pdf file).
A short excerpt:
The Color of Odors
Gil Morrot
Unité de Recherche Biopolyméres et Arômes, Centre INRA de Montpellier, Montpellier, France
and
Frëdëric Brochet and Denis Dubourdieu
Facultë d’oenologie de l’Universitë de Bordeaux 2, Talence, France
The interaction between the vision of colors and odor determination is investigated through lexical analysis of experts’ wine tasting comments. The analysis shows that the odors of a wine are, for the most part, represented by objects that have the color of the wine. The assumption of
the existence of a perceptual illusion between odor and color is confirmed by a psychophysical experiment. A white wine artificially colored red with an odorless dye was olfactory described as a red wine by a panel of 54 tasters. Hence, because of the visual information, the tasters discounted the olfactory information. Together with recent psychophysical and neuroimaging data, our results suggest that the above perceptual illusion occurs during the verbalization phase of odor determination.
It's very real. Sorry!

the reason the Frenchies couldnt taste the difference between the red wine and the white wine is they smoke so goddamned much and their tongues are useless.

taste != smell
Reds and Whites can have very similar noses.

Read some of the cited research noted in that article, Miir - it's not bullshit, it most definately applies. Visual stimulation effects our sense of smell *and* taste to the extent that even experienced wine tasters are fooled.
If you don't have a reason to think you're drinking a white wine, your mind will work on the assumption that you aren't, and the descriptive process will further impact on your sensation of taste. I have no doubt that this works. Had they been placed in a pitch-black room with two glasses of wine in front of them and noone had told them if they were red or white, I'm sure these experts would have, quite correctly, identified the fake red. But in this case I don't think so.

The test was based strictly on the odour of the wines.
Where red and white wines can smell very similar, the difference in taste is unmistakable.
You originally said that these 'professional tasters' couldnt 'taste' the difference between a red and a white.
That's why I said it was bullshit. Even I can 'taste' the difference between a Merlot and a Cabernet.
Because the test was based only on smell, it's much more believable and not very surprising.

The difference between Mt. Dew, Mello Yellow, and Pepsi Blue is easy.
They are different companies trying to break into the same market....they didn't have a food product that tasted like that....
Ore Ida has many types of french fries already, most of them taste approximately the same. The blue ones I beleive were thier "crispers" variety fries only with some coloring additive.
Thus instead of 2 companies marketing a similar product...which is just being competitive....
Ore Ida has 2 products from the same company, thus competing with itself....which is pointless and stupid.
If I have kids, they will not eat stupid shit like that. I mean say your hungry or you have some weekend guests who want a snack....are you going to put blue fries and purple ketchup in front of them and not feel like a fucking retard? No it's not possible.
My kids will eat what I put on thier plate or they will go hungry. I will refuse to pay premium prices to make thier food look like shit and contain more additives.
It's sad we think it's acceptable to make our food look like candy to convince kids to eat it. It's sad we start making chocolate french fries so that actual food has been replaced with crappy candy.
Why do we have so many fat kids now? Its because we are teaching them if it doesn't look like or taste like candy...don't eat it.
You know those kids who cry everytime they pass a toy? And the parents buy it the first few times to shut them up and then they can't pass a toy ever again with out a tantrum? And they have no idea why?
Keep feeding them stuff related to candy....see if you can make them sit down to a regular meal in a restaruant with like baked potato and salad and shit, in OMG thier natural colors. Or if they will just move it around on thier plate, then go home and look for some snacks.
You know they put red dye on steaks, otherwise they would be brown, the color of old meat. But it's another to take a product that looks normal already and has been accepted in society for many years, and just color it different and market it as a new product, which competes with the old. Especially if that product is less appealing then the original. I mean do you see grocery stores selling red and brown meat seperate? No...they add the dye to all the meat, because otherwise they just end up spending more money to sell the same amount of product.
Long story short:
Making your product more appealing as a whole = good
**Red dye in steak makes it look fresh.**
Competing in a new market = good
**Entering the Mt Dew market as Pepsi Blue can steal some of Mt Dew's business**
Marketing the same product in 2 packages with the sole purpose of competing with your own product = retarded.
----------------------------------------------
There is one way that this product idea would make sense....
There is actually a potato that grows in the ground and ends up being blue/purple. I forget the name but it was probably something retarded like indigo potatoes.
If for some reason it was cheaper to manufacture fries using that blue potato I could see why this occurred, but my feeling is its food coloring.

There is such a thing as a blue potato as an fyi.
Assuming a product is released to the public solely to compete against itself is the silliest thing I've read in a long while.
Mabye they're trying to drum up interest in the fry market if it's been waning over the past few years.
Maybe they found a sizable market for fries using blue potatos because they taste different.
Maybe it's to spearhead or follow up on a product line, whether it's newly introduced or currently existing.
However, it most certainly wasn't released solely to cannibalize it's current market.

There is this show on the cooking channel called the Surreal Gourmet (or something similar) - on it the guy makes really weird gourmet foods.
Example - He made Green Eggs and Ham. Of course it wasn't green eggs and ham exactly.. it was cantelope, honey dew melon and procuitto.. a very common appetizer. Only he cut the cantelope to look like a fried egg with the honey dew as the yoke. It was quite cute

Then he poached salmon in his dishwasher. Was quite weird. He drives around in a toaster. It's a cool show!

Has anyone else tried the green dnL? Upside down 7up logo.
Unlike 7up, it's caffeinated and unlike 7up (IMO) it tastes good. Anyway, if you're a Dew drinker, try it.
